September Watch: 7 Movies and TV Shows to Look Out For

Culture

A new month means a new beginning. In this case, that new beginning includes new movies and T.V shows that will be coming out in September. So get ready to list down what you would like to watch, and make sure to have fun!

1. SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS

Shang-Chi (played by Simu Liu) is forced to revisit his past after being allured to the enigmatic Ten Rings organization. This movie's plot is quite complex and has countless details that would require you to watch the film to understand. You can also watch the trailer at the bottom!

Simu Liu, not only outdoing himself as Shang-chi, talks about being a positive influence on those who want to pursue their dreams in the acting industry. He has not only opened a path for people of Asian heritage but all minority groups out there. This masterpiece is recommended to all, regardless of whether you are a Marvel fan or not.

2. VENOM 2: LET THERE BE CARNAGE

This story occurs a year after all the events that happened in Venom (2018). Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy) is still trying to adjust to his daily life as the host of the alien symbiote, Venom. Venom provides Eddie with super-human strength and skills. Eddie, in hopes of returning to his old career, takes up an interview with serial killer Cletus Kasady. However, Cletus ends up becoming the host of the symbiote "Carnage" and escapes prison.

The trailer (as expected) doesn't give us much more than the plot summary above. The action scenes from the trailer and the visual graphics of Venom are truly outstanding. I recommend 'Venom (2018)' and the upcoming movie 'Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage' to everyone out there!

P.S: Just so you know, there are moments of violence and gore that might be scary for viewers below the age of 13.

3. CINDERELLA (2021)

In this movie, Cinderella (played by Camila Cabello) is an ambitious woman who wants to build a clothing business called "Dresses by Ella". However, she is hindered by the patriarchal society she lives in and is often discouraged to pursue her dreams. Later on in the story, Cinderella unexpectedly grabs the attention of Prince Robert, who immediately falls for her. When he does encounter her at a market in disguise, he buys the dress that she attempts to sell. Then he convinces her to come to the ball in return to introduce her to investors around the globe. Does Cinderella say yes or no? Well, it's up to you to find out!

I'd also like to say that all of the songs in the film are memorable, catchy and inspirational. My favourite song in the film was Camila's solo, "Million To One". It's such a beautiful and motivational song. Cinderella 2021 is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

4. HOMETOWN CHA-CHA-CHA

Yoon Hye-jin (played by Shin Min-ah) is a dentist who lives in the city of Seoul, South Korea. She loses her job after she accuses the head dentist of the clinic of lengthening treatment processes for more profit. Unable to get another job in the city, she goes on a trip to the seaside village of Gongjin. There she accidentally meets Hong Du-shik (played by Kim Seon-ho), the chief of everything at Gongjin. Du-shik is respected by everyone in the village because he's always around to help during times of need. After many hurdles along the way, Hye-jin and Du-shik eventually find themselves falling for each other.

This is the first Korean drama I've seen with such a calm and relaxing storyline. Even the drama's OST is so peaceful and pure. I remember how relaxing it felt every time I sat down to watch an episode. And those small conflicts and mysterious character backstories are perfect to keep the audience captivated throughout.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is currently streaming on Netflix and I highly recommend it to all out there!

5. ESCAPE ROOM: TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

Six escape room champions find themselves locked in ANOTHER set of dangerous escape rooms. After the first two deaths, they join forces with Zoey Davis (played by Taylor Rusell) and Ben Miller (played by Logan Miller). However, the rooms seem harder this time. So will Zoey and Ben be able to survive through the games once again, or is this the end?

My review of the film was that it was very captivating and hooks you in right away. I highly recommend it to those who love horror and thriller films, though it would help you watch the first movie before this one.

6. DUNE

Dune is about the son of a very noble family who will be provided with the protection of the most significantly held element in the galaxy. It stars Timothee Chalamet (as Paul Atreides), Rebecca Ferguson (as Lady Jessica), Zendaya (as Chani), and many more. The movie is said to be released around the end of October and is based on the novel by Frank Herbert.

I believe that this film will turn out fabulous and the cast does seem quite promising. If you are someone who loves watching science fiction, you will most likely enjoy the theme of this movie. And if you're someone who hasn't watched sci-fi before, maybe this could be an opportunity to explore that genre.

7. SQUID GAME

Squid Game is a South Korean television series that was released on September 17, 2021. It tells the story of hundreds of cash-trapped people who receive an invitation to participate in a "children's" survival game to win 40 million dollars. The players cannot back out of the games unless the majority votes to terminate them temporarily.

From what I've seen so far, it's quite a thriller! I am sure it will hook you in right away and keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. There is also a special appearance of Gong Yoo (from Goblin) in the first episode of the film. I recommend this drama to everyone, and it can be seen on Netflix.

P.S: The drama does include inappropriate language and an explicit scene. So if you're below the age of 14, do watch out for that.
