TikTok content creator, @DanielleMarcan first coined the phrase in July of 2023. Marcan sought to make her gaze more seductive by elongating jet-black eyeliner along the inner and outer corners of her eyes.
The makeup look involves creating a dramatic smudgy cat eye using liner and/or eyeshadow. Since then, the hashtag “siren eyes” on TikTok, has amassed 1.4 billion views with many linking the popular trend to dark feminine energy. Dark feminine energy is mysterious, raw, and assertive.

2. Doe Eyes
Contrary to popular belief, the popular innocent look started in 1950 when Life Magazine discussed the doe eye or “L’oeil de biche” (eye of a deer) look. Earlier that year, French models were spotted wearing exaggerated eye-makeup which was different from the 1940s lipstick craze.
Many TikTok users contrast doe eyes and siren eyes. According to influencer @melbellles, doe eyes open the eyes and create a broad, bright, innocent-looking look. Doe eye makeup aims to create softer shapes with more neutral shades and blending.
