A Recap of Season 1

Wednesday Season 1 was incredibly popular and well-received, receiving four Primetime Emmy Awards. Within its first five days available, it was watched for around 6 billion minutes. The first season of Wednesday was a successful and creative re-imagination of the iconic Addams Family movies.

The TV show begins with Wednesday, portrayed by Jenna Ortega, being expelled from her old school for playing a violent prank on students who had been bullying her younger brother Pugsley. She is then enrolled in Nevermore Academy, the supernatural boarding school where her parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, met.

Once there, Wednesday investigates a series of mysteries about a strange creature who has been killing people. These mysteries extend outside of Nevermore and into a nearby town called Jericho. She meets many different characters along the way, befriending her roommate Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers, whose bright personality is a great contrast to Wednesday's dark humour and mood.

As the story progresses, Wednesday begins to have psychic visions which aid her in her quest to uncover the mystery of the monster, who she discovers is a Hyde, a person who transforms into a monster. She also investigates the town's history, finding connections between the town's founder, Joseph Crackstone, and her ancestor, Goody Addams. The season ends with Wednesday discovering the monster to be Tyler, one of the people she had befriended, and a number of other cliffhangers. It left viewers eager for Season 2 and wondering what would happen next.

The Cast

Through a Behind-the-Scenes sneak peak and other mediums of information, Netflix has revealed some of the returning cast members for Season 2. They consist of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez Addams, Issac Ordonez as Pugsley, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barkley, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, and some others. Tim Burton will also be returning as Wednesday's director.

Notably, Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier, will not be returning. This is due to allegations of sexual assault against White. His character has been written out of the Season 2. Other cast members who will not be returning include Jamie McShane, who played Sheriff Donovan Galpin, and Naomi J Ogawa, who played Yoko Tanaka.

Season 2 will also feature a plethora of new cast members. Some of the new cast members include Joanna Lumley as Grandmama, Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Billie Piper as Capri, and Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn. Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in the original Addams Family movie from 1991, will also be a part of the new cast.

Season 2 Plot and Filming Location

Season 2 began filming in Ireland in early 2024, with production having moved there from Romania in May. The exact reasons for the change in location are unknown.

Little is known about the plot of Season 2 so far. Ortega, who plays Wednesday, has teased that Season 2 will include even more creepy creatures than Season 1. In her cover story for Vanity Fair's 2024 Hollywood Issue, Ortega said that for Season 2, “we’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world. Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires and da-ta-da. And I think we expand on that a little bit.”

In the same article, she described the episodes for Wednesday Season 2 as more like movies than episodes. “I mean, in the first season we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like Prom Night, a little bit, or Carrie. Every episode [of season two] that I’ve read so far is like that. It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky.”

The behind-the-scenes content Netflix released has also given us some clues as to what Season 2 will be like. One of the behind-the-scenes videos flashes quickly through scenes of cast members filming and ends with Ortega, as Wednesday, saying “if we showed you anymore, your eyes would bleed. And I'm not that generous.”

Another behind-the-scenes video, which shows some of the cast members of Season 2, gives us a bit more information. It shows Thing handing out scripts to the various cast members. When Ortega, as Wednesday, receives her, we can clearly see the title of the Wednesday Season 2 premiere: “Here We Woe Again.” In the video, upon seeing the script, Ortega says “more torture awaits”, promising a thrilling ride for Season 2.

Season 2 Release Date

Although Netflix has confirmed Wednesday Season 2 will be released in 2025, exactly when it will air is unknown. Hopefully, we'll receive more information about when Season 2 will be released as Netflix continues to release behind-the-scenes content.

For now, we continue to watch and wait with excitement as Netflix continues to release behind-the-scenes content and teasers. With an amazing cast of actors and creators behind Wednesday Season 2, it will undoubtedly be just as dark and exciting as Season 1!
