First released in 2022, the hit show Wednesday is finally set to return. Fans have been dying to watch the new season, which was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The series broke numerous streaming records, becoming the most streamed English-language Netflix show in one week and the 5th most watched Netflix show of all time.

The long-awaited second season will debut in two parts. Part 1 will hit Netflix on August 6th of this year, followed by Part 2 on September 3rd. This season will contain 8 episodes, split evenly between the two parts.

Who Will Be Returning to the Show?

Jenna Ortega rejoins the cast as the main character, Wednesday. She is joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as her parents, Morticia and Gomez. Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, will be returning for a larger role as a new student at Nevermore Academy.

Fred Armisen will reappear as Uncle Fester, along with Victor Dorobantu as Thing. Joanna Lumley will join the Addams family as Grandmama Hester Frump, Morticia’s harsh and wealthy mother.

Fan-favorite character Enid Sinclair, portrayed by Emma Myers, will return as a supporting character in season 2. Jamie McShane will return as Sheriff Galphin—but not as a series regular. However, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who portrays Galvin’s deputy, Richie Santiago, has been promoted to series regular. Other new series regulars include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor.

Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Wednesday’s love interest, Xavier Thorpe, will not be returning to the show. He was dropped from the cast after controversial allegations circulated against him. Additionally, not rejoining the show is Naomi J. Ogawa, who played vampire student Yoko Tanaka.

Most notably, joining the cast as a guest star is famed musician and actress Lady Gaga. She will play Rosaline Rotwood, a teacher at Nevermore Academy. Among the other guest stars are Christopher Lloyd, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, and Heather Matarazzo.

What Happened Last Season?

Season 1 follows Wednesday’s first year at Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. Wednesday quickly discovers that she has psychic powers that allow her to have visions of the past and future. She uses her newfound powers to investigate a series of murders plaguing the town of Jericho.

During her investigation, Wednesday discovers a secret about her parents’ upbringing at Nevermore. Her discoveries connect them to a past murder and mysterious cover-up. Tyler Galphin is one of Wednesday’s love interests but is later discovered to be the Hyde, a monstrous creature who attacks Nevermore and Jericho. Tyler is eventually taken to the psychiatric hospital after a confrontation. It is revealed that Miss Thornhill is the face behind the attacks and has been seeking to revive Joseph Crackstone with the goal of bringing about the downfall of Nevermore Academy. With the help of her friends, Wednesday confronts Miss Thornhill and brings her destruction to an end.

What Will Happen in Season 2?

Season 2 will explore darker themes, lessening the romantic subplots of season 1. The addition of new characters and family members is sure to stir up drama and friction. Wednesday will return to Nevermore Academy with her brother Pugsley and roommate/unlikely best friend Enid Sinclair.

The trailer features Wednesday navigating psychic visions about Enid and how her mother attempts to help her. Season 2 will also follow Tyler Galphin in the psychiatric hospital and his possible return to his Hyde form. Overall, a lot remains unclear about the next season of Wednesday, but we are eager to see what this hit show brings next. Don’t worry, Wednesday fans—it’s not over yet! Wednesday has already been renewed for a third season, set to begin filming this fall. Additionally, the creators have stated they have a “multi-season” plan, meaning this show may continue for upwards of four seasons.
