At first it was just rumors, but here it is: the film has been confirmed by an Instagram post from 20th Century Studios, which says that filming began on June 30, 2025.
And as fast as lightning, they even already released the trailer 10 days ago, here it is:
In it, we can see Miranda’s (Meryl Streep) heel-strut, with the iconic music of the film in the background, heading into the elevator and being joined by Andy (Anne Hathaway).
This is exactly what fans are loving: the main actors are the same, which reassures us a lot. And—wait, what am I reading? Lady Gaga would have a small role in the film, according to Yahoo! magazine.
"EW has learned that Lady Gaga will play a small role in the film, the Oscar-winning singer-songwriter filming in Milan, Italy, while she travels the world during her Mayhem album tour."
Well, well, this film might definitely make us lose our minds!
The first film was already a huge success, but did you know it was originally inspired by a book?

From the First Film to the Second
Indeed, the film is based on the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, who romanticizes her time as assistant to Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
The first film follows Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she ventures into the world of high-fashion publishing. Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci—who played Nigel, the ultra-loyal artistic director of Runway—are all ready to reprise their roles in the film.
Andy is fascinated by the powerful Miranda Priestly, but she gets out at the end of the film. However, the character meets her former boss again in two of Weisberger’s later novels.
When it was released, the original film grossed over 326 million dollars worldwide, received two Oscar nominations, and even gave birth to a stage musical starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly, currently performed in London’s West End. So, it’s not surprising that studios wanted a sequel.
And as I just told you, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are ready to reprise their roles in the film.

But what will the new film be about? Here’s what I read in Vanity Fair:
Here’s the basic idea, according to Puck: “The storyline being discussed focuses on Miranda Priestly, Streep’s Wintour-esque protagonist, at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She’s forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”
From what I understand, and after doing more research, the film will address a very current theme: journalism facing AI… and Miranda Priestly.
I also read this in Elle:
“[She] navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.” It’s not yet obvious where Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, will fit into this story — but rest assured, she’ll be there.

So, after reading this, I wonder: could this be Emily’s revenge because she didn’t get to go to Paris, and now that she has climbed the ranks, she’ll make Miranda pay?
And as I told you earlier, the film is an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s books—and didn’t she publish two more? What if the film was inspired by that one?
The book, published in 2014, follows Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, who run their own high-end wedding magazine, The Plunge, after leaving Runway. However, a lot has changed in the media since 2014, so which version should we believe?
Personally, I love Miranda, but the idea that Emily and Andy teamed up and succeeded fills me with joy—what about you?
Unfortunately, everything still feels quite vague, but very promising.
And now, shall we talk about fashion? That’s right, how will Hathaway be dressed on set? Can we see some examples?

Fashion = Always and Forever
Yes! On July 21st, Hathaway shared a TikTok video of herself in character, wearing a colorful 2025 patchwork maxi dress by Gabriela Hearst.
In an Instagram post, Hathaway revealed another Andy look: a vintage fine-striped vest by Jean Paul Gaultier and matching trousers.
Then she was seen in a Toteme tank top, a long AGOLDE denim skirt, and Chanel Velcro sandals.
On July 23rd, it was Streep’s turn to strut the streets of New York. Paparazzi spotted her for the first time in her Miranda costume. Wearing the Manuela skirt by Gabriela Hearst and a purple blouse, she looked exactly as chic as we hoped.
The outfits promise to be memorable, especially with the city surrounding them: NEW YORK!
The Vespa Trip to NYC, Accompanied by New People?
Yes, most of the filming will take place in the Big Apple, but some scenes were also shot in Italy; according to Elle Decor, several sequences were filmed in Milan and Lake Como. And Meryl Streep was spotted at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Milan! Could this be related to Lady Gaga’s small role filmed in Milan? Maybe!

Lady Gaga is clearly a new addition, which reminds me of Broadway stars Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora—you might recognize him from How to Get Away with Murder—as well as the brilliant comedian and podcaster Caleb Hearon, recently seen in Sweethearts, who also joined the cast!
This mixture of nostalgia and novelty is exactly what fans love. It’s everything we need!
But was there a moment of doubt?
Doubt: Was It Really Gone?
“There is a huge difference in the world today with technology, and one aspect of this story in particular is that it was about creating a physical object. Today, with so many digital things, it would be very different,” Hathaway said at the time—even though the upcoming film seems to address this point well.
Emily Blunt also said that “sometimes, you have to cherish and preserve things in that bubble, and that’s okay,” hinting that a sequel might never happen. But here we are today counting down the days until the release of the new film!
Opinions and Conclusion
The choice to revisit the world of print magazines is strategic: this topic is very “current” and could give a more modern and critical angle to the sequel. I find this theme very relevant; I would love to receive a fashion magazine in my mailbox like in the 2000s!
And if this film changes how many people view this topic, I hope print magazines will come back into fashion in 2026!
For fans, this film is a wish come true, hoping that the days will pass faster until May 1, 2026.
Well dressed, with friends, at the cinema, listening to the click of heels.
