It is a truth universally acknowledged that we spend more time looking for a good show than watching one. Constantly scrolling back and forth through streaming services, cable TV, and recommendations only to end up on the show you've watched a thousand times or on the channel with questionable infomercials. And one can only survive so long with those options.
Below is a carefully curated list of shows for your enjoyment. Next time you notice your scrolling is taking longer than getting to the end of an episode, give one of these a shot!

Sweet Tooth (Netflix)
“The Great Crumble happened slowly at first. But the cracks had been forming for some time.”
Based on the Sweet Tooth comics by Jeff Lemire, the Netflix series follows Gus, a half-deer, half-human hybrid, in a post-apocalyptic world being ravaged by 'The Sick'. Gus meets Jepp (affectionately nicknamed ‘Big Man’) and many other memorable characters as he journeys to discover his origins. At its core, Sweet Tooth is about the spectrum humanity is on and where the show succeeds most by not shying away from either end.
This award-winning show has proved itself to be one of the top sci-fi/fantasy shows of this decade and worthy of multiple nights of binge-watching. Sweet Tooth is now a complete three-season series streaming only on Netflix.
The Gilded Age (HBO Max)
“I am not concerned with facts. Not if they interfere with my beliefs.”
Robber Barons, Social Climbing (and Falling), Scheming Servants, and Opera Houses: The Emmy-nominated series set in the late 1800s (i.e. The Gilded Age) follows the new money Russell's as they force themselves into old money's society, breaking it down along the way. The ensemble cast, while large, has chemistry and dynamics that make it easy to become invested and be on the edge of your seat.
And if you're a history nerd, like myself, watch out for historical appearances, events, and namedrops. The show is now streaming on HBO Max with two seasons and has been renewed for a third.

Apply NowQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (Netflix)
“I will stand with you between the heavens and the earth. I will tell you where you are. Do you love me?”
A spin-off series is always on the edge of being a hit or miss. Queen Charlotte's story with its romance, dialogue (as showcased above), and easter eggs to the main series is a complete hit. The story follows a young Queen Charlotte as she is forced to marry the King who is a complete mystery; to her and the rest of England.
The series also follows young Lady Agatha finding herself outside her suffocating marriage. With a BAFTA award and various nominations, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has become a staple in the romance genre. The limited series is now streaming on Netflix.
Anne with an E (Netflix)
“In my maturity, I've come to the happy, evolutionary opinion that I'm unusual, and I embrace it.”
Based on the classic novel ‘Anne of Green Gables’, Anne with an E, is a coming-of-age show that follows Anne, an orphan girl, who brings her vibrant personality and imagination into Avonlea. Each character embodies all the themes entirely and gives the viewer a rich sense of nostalgia for your younger years even as you're growing up along with them. Anne with an E sets itself apart with its excellent story and cast that brings the heart of the series: friendship, family, and identity to life.
With several awards and nominations under its belt, Anne with an E is a binge-worthy, tear-jerking series, that anyone who watches recommends. The full three-season series is now streaming on Netflix.
The Bear (Hulu/Disney+)
“It would be weird to work in a restaurant and not completely lose your mind.”
Overwhelming in the best way possible is the way most people would describe this show. The Bear is a comedy/drama series that follows Carmy, a trained fine-dining chef, as he navigates the restaurant his brother left for him that has, for lack of a better phrase, a crumbling foundation. The first episode is a whirlwind of fast-paced intrigue, drama, comedy, and chaos; the following episodes are no exception.
Each of the characters finds a way to burrow themselves into your heart, even the most frustrating ones. With the many awards it has accumulated, The Bear will most likely be among the top-rated shows to pass through our generation. Currently, The Bear can be found streaming on Hulu/Disney+ with three seasons and a fourth on the way.
