Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Fantastic Mr. Fox is an animated adventure-comedy film based on the novel of the same name by British author Roald Dahl.

The film follows Mr. Fox as he breaks a promise to his wife and raids the farms of their human neighbors. When the farmers catch him, he must use his natural craftiness to help his family survive their retaliation.

With its autumnal color palette and overall fall aesthetic, this film is perfect for unwinding and relaxing.

Take the Quiz: What Fall Movie Should You Watch Based On Your Favourite Activities?

Ready for a movie night but not sure what to watch? Here are some recommendations based on your favourite fall activities!

Dead Poets Society (1989)

The coming-of-age drama Dead Poets Society follows a new English teacher, John Keating, as he is introduced to an all-boys school in which he uses bizarre methods to help his students break out of their shells and pursue their dreams.

Not only is the movie set in the fall, but the themes of change the students endure perfectly represent what this season is all about.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

The third installment of the fantasy series follows Harry Potter and his friends, Hermione and Ron, as they uncover the truth about the deranged serial killer who escaped from prison, Sirius Black.

Cuddle up on the couch and watch the golden trio discover the truth about the past while observing the movie's beautiful fall and winter color palette.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)

This comedy romance follows the title characters, Harry and Sally, in the ultimate "friends to lovers" trope. Without giving too much away, I can only say that this movie deals with the intricacies of human relationships and the concept of men and women being just friends through several encounters.

This movie is the perfect fall movie because of its visual representation of the season, making you want to wear the same cozy outfits the character wears.

A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017-2019)

Based on the book series of the same name by Lemony Snicket, A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the Baudelaire children as they fight tooth and nail to escape Count Olaf and learn about their family secrets.

The series not only depicts a gloomy fall but explores the transition from innocence to maturity through the children's experiences.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018-2020)

Based on the Archie comic book series, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows half-human, half-witch Sabrina as she navigates between her everyday teen life and her family's legacy.

Contrary to other shows/movies on this list, this show is definitely for those who enjoy a darker fall vibe filled with dark reds and all things witchy!

Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)

This drama follows the lives of 32-year-old single mother Lorelai Gilmore as she raises her intellectual 16-year-old daughter, Rory Gilmore.

If you're anything like me and adore sitcoms, this is definitely a good fall option for you! With this show, you can just relax and watch the lives of these fictional characters unfold before your eyes for seasons on end.

Heartstopper (2022-)

Based on Alice Oseman's webcomic and graphic novel, Heartstopper is an English coming-of-age romantic and comedy-drama following teens Charlie and Nick as they become friends and fall in love.

If you're in your feels this season or simply are a sucker for love stories, this is the show for you!

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018)

Based on Jenny Han's 2014 novel of the same name, To All the Boys I've Loved Before follows our main character, Lara Jean, as she accidentally sends all five of her past crush's love letters.

Once again, if you love a good fall romance with some bumps in the road, this movie is perfect for you!

Stranger Things (2016-2025)

First of all, if you haven't watched Stranger Things, what rock have you been living under? All jokes aside (not really--it is the best show on Earth), the horror series revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers and his Indiana friends, who temper with supernatural forces to rescue their friend and the entire world as we know it.

Once again, this show is definitely for those who like a gloomier, darker fall since it deals with some unfortunate themes.

Little Women (2019)

Based on Louisa May Alcott's novel by the same name, Little Women follows the four March sisters as they transition from childhood to adulthood.

If you like a good, cozy, homey story (that will probably make you cry) with warm colors, this is the right movie for you!

Coraline (2009)

This is my favorite movie of all time! Also based on a novel by the same name, this masterpiece of a film follows Coraline Jones, a young girl who deals with having to move to a boring town by exploring her new home. However, through this, she discovers that her "boring" town is not dull. Instead, it is a portal to a "better" world away from her current family.

This movie will forever be a fall classic for me because of its nostalgia and gloomy color palette that relaxed me immediately as a child.

Twilight (2008)

Cliche? Yes. A hated movie by many?

Maybe. A fall classic? Most definitely. Once again, this movie is based on the novel series of the same name and follows seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan on her move to Forks, Washington. However, in this boring old town, she falls in love with Edward Cullen, a 103-year-old vampire frozen in his 17-year-old body. Even if vampire love stories aren't your thing, give this movie a shot (and at least you'll get a laugh out of it).

I hope you enjoyed reading this list and give some of these movies/series a try. Let me know your favorite fall movie in the comments below!
