Jordan Huxhold: Social Media Star Turned Fashion Model on Growing His Creative Career

Social Media

August 31, 2023

In the evolution of social media, content and creativity are endless. Every day, new creators take to the internet to follow their passion and build a connection with the right audience. Jordan Huxhold, 23, born in the tropical state of Florida, has been in the creative space for four years and not only saw success in finding his audience but also expanded his identity from a social media superstar to fashion and modeling.

In this exclusive interview with The Teen Magazine, Jordan spoke about the importance of self-care in his work, brands and clothing styles that inspired his own sense of fashion and expanded on creative spaces he is working to grow into professionally.

Where it Started

Jordan started social media right after high school, about four years ago. He saw it as a space where he could unleash his creativity and find an audience that was interested in seeing it. Referring to a time when he didn't have a very active or happening social life, he felt like the response and engagement he received on his social platforms were greatly motivating and gave him the validation that people were enjoying his content. His career eventually grew from an influencer to a model, and it continues to expand into other creative professional spaces.

His audience on Instagram particularly grew through his unique modeling photos and sense of style. He also has a YouTube channel, on which he only started posting back in 2020, with three videos on the channel and a few shorts. He also constantly engages with his followers, not only through his Instagram, Twitter and TikTok but also through his Discord server and Twitch streams.

Fashion and Modeling

Inspired by actors like Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, and other fashion models, his interest in the acting and modeling industry grew. "Dressing well is an important thing for me," he said, and this started to define not only his professional journey but also how he dressed and presented himself to the social media world.

The 90s are his favorite era when it comes to fashion, specifically brands like Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren and fashion designers like Vivienne Westwood. With a special interest in suits, he talked about how "I really like how suits in the 90s were tailored," which heavily influenced his personal style.

Other than his captivating Instagram photos reflecting his style, he has also made several appearances at events like the Saint Laurent SS24 Menswear Collection Presentation In Berlin and the Prada Spring/Summer 2024 Menswear Fashion Show as a part of Milan Men's Fashion Week. He has also been photographed at the 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' and 'Babylon' Young Hollywood events and the influencer screening of 'Scream VI' where he rocked all black and neutral-colored outfits.

A Day in the Life of Jordan

A crucial part of Jordan's work is ensuring he constantly works on himself and cares for himself. "I am a part of the work I do," he said when asked about what a typical workday might look like. He ensures he eats right, works out, and stays creative and inspired through reading and meeting new people.

When it comes to the actual work that generates an income for him, "the effort I put into myself translates to that." Those days go into activities such as staying on set, shooting, and working with creative people. "I feel really lucky to be able to do that," he says, referring to having the opportunity to work with imaginative and motivated people, which in turn boosts his creativity.

Dealing with Social Media

Social media can often be a stressful and negative space. When asked how he deals with the burnout that may come with having a large online presence, he said the first thing he does is "take a step back" from the internet. He expressed how he'd feel upset if he felt like he wasn't being creative or his work wasn’t connecting with people.

Having done this for four years, he has experienced this for quite some time and, through the ups and downs, he tells himself that everything will be fine. "Today doesn’t define who I will be in the next decade" is how he reassures himself to stay motivated and deal with any negativity that may come from social media. He doesn't let a bad day define his future and thinks about everything he has accomplished so far to remain hopeful about what’s coming.

What also helps is the community he has that supports his career. Other than followers and friends, his entire family has greatly supported him and encouraged his career since the beginning. "My parents and siblings, especially my mom," he mentioned regarding his support system that believed in the growth of his career.

What Does The Future Hold?

Jordan is now looking to expand into other creative areas professionally as someone who has already established himself as a fashion model and social media influencer quite firmly through his massive audience and opportunities, such as his participation in the Dior Men Spring 23 Capsule Show in May 2022 in California and the Adidas x Stella McCartney Launch Event. He is actively getting into the areas of acting and creative direction. He's currently working on something in acting and has been constantly practicing to hone his skills.

"Hopefully, you'll see me in something in the future, that'll be pretty cool!" he said. When it comes to creative direction, he has already been involved in it in some capacity, since activities like ideating and conceptualising photoshoots need a certain level of creative direction, but he's looking forward to taking it to a higher level.

Advice from Jordan

As we approached the end of the interview, Jordan had some words of wisdom to share with youngsters trying to find what they're passionate about. "Listen to yourself and keep trying," he said, focusing on the idea that if something feels like your calling, follow it and don't give up. Reminiscent of his own experience as he started his journey, he said it's important for people to understand that nothing is impossible. "I've seen impossible things happen to people around me; it's really inspiring".

He also mentioned how what's happening today doesn't define where your life will go in the future. Recalling a quote he once heard that he liked, he said, "It's not about where you start, but where you finish." He placed emphasis on finding your passion and following it without letting anyone demotivate you. "I'm really glad that I believed in myself," he said, looking back on his career. He ended his response with, "People will remember you when you're great. They won't remember everything you did in between, so enjoy the journey!"
