TikTok is no longer just about dances, memes, drama and lip-sync trends now it has entered the most aesthetic corner of app that’s cozy desk setup, colour-coded notes, ultra organized digital planners, sparkling study lamps and digital aesthetic clock and stopwatches. At first sight all I felt was it was just something aesthetic content to gain views but when I dived deep into this I got to know that it has huge impact and promises turning biggest procrastinators, unfocused students into a straight sincere student.
As a high schooler balancing tough coursework, NEET prep, and that constant pressure to be productive, and get into medical school with preparing for deadly entrance exams I decided to dive into StudyTok’s most viral productivity methods and give it a shot to see if they actually worked or were just another aesthetic content to earn views just like ASMR AND GRWM. Are they just glorified procrastination in pastel filters or social media fluff dressed in pastel highlighters and lo-fi beats.
Here’s my honest take after trying five of them for a full week.

What it is: This is actually a time management method which involves working on tasks in focused 25 minutes time interval and taking 5 minutes break followed by short breaks, and longer breaks after every four pomodoro. It's designed to improve focus, reduce procrastination, and boost productivity.

What I did: I used a Study With Me Pomodoro YouTube video that guided the sessions with relaxing music and a visible timer. I used to choose a task Select the task that I want to focus on than I used to set timer wisely for 25 minutes. I used to work intensely with deep concentration. Focus solely on the task, avoiding distractions. When the timer rings, take a 5-10 minute break .
But here’s the catch: When I was in deep focus especially during textbook reading or concept-heavy subjects those 25-minute timers felt like annoying interruptions. I found myself skipping breaks just to keep my flow going, which kind of defeats the point.
What Worked:
- Great for getting started and fighting procrastination.
- Helped me get through subjects I usually avoid (looking at you, Organic Chemistry and Physics)
What Didn’t:
- Too rigid for creative or in-depth tasks and short break sometimes broke my focus instead of refreshing it.
Final Score: ★★★★☆

Want to take up an extracurricular activity but not sure which one fits your personality? Then this is the quiz for you!
2. Notion Study Dashboard— Productivity Needs Home
What It Is: A customizable digital workspace to organize and create personalized study dashboards, task boards, and more. I used boards to track daily, weekly, or monthly study goals, schedules breaking them down into manageable chunks. Study calendar integrates study schedule creating a visual calendar to plan. If I was studying with a group I used Notion boards to collaborate on projects, share notes, and track progress of our whole circle which helped in group works and in systematic way.
What I Tried: I created a Study Dashboard with a daily planner, to-do list, and subject pages, following a StudyTok creator’s template and also started havig group session of studies with class buddies. I used to track our records and we used to solve quiz, MCQ type questions, make mind map of chapters, also started revision papers.

But here’s the catch – Building the dashboard gave me major main character energy in front of my friends but here's the truth. I spent more time designing it than using it. Once it stopped feeling new, I realized I didn’t need a fancy dashboard to stay organized - I just needed clarity and consistency.
What Worked:
- Engaging and high level of quality of assignments improved standard of learning and mock preparation.
What Didn’t:
- Very easy to over-customize and procrastinate and overthink.
Final Score: ★★★☆☆
3. Color-Coded Notes — Retention Made Easy
What it is: color-coding is a dynamic method to memorize and remember the information that you need to learn and memorize for longer period using highlighter, sticky notes, different colors for headers and important points, correction tapes to correct mistakes in writing, etc. It is helpful to enhance memory retention also to stimulate your attention and make your study skills more strategic.

What I did: As stationary has always fascinated and motivated me to study it was a jam to me. I choose a consistent color scheme and selected a limited set of colors and used them consistently throughout my notes. I assigned colors for different purposes for example Red (important information), Blue (definitions/concepts), Green (examples), Yellow (questions), Purple (vocabulary), Orange (dates), etc. I used to highlight definition and MCQ type questions with coloured highlighters.
But here’s the catch: The method was so time consuming and sometimes distracting, especially if done while actively taking notes. While watching lectures and parallely making notes I used to miss some points
What Worked:
- With its often abstract and interconnected concepts, color-coding can help make complex ideas more visual and easier to process.
What Didn’t:
- Color coding can take extra time, which might be better spent on reviewing the material it can become confusing and mess.
4. “Study With Me” YouTube Sessions — Digital Study Buddies
What It is: Studying with live YouTube videos where people sincerely calmly study with timer in front and with calm lo-fi music and ambient environment. The sessions usually kept less in timing like not for hours to have consistent focus with breaks. The community surrounding these YouTube accounts is very supportive and motivational and they're part of the popular “with me” trend, which began in 2010.
What I did: I first felt it wouldn't work but surprisingly it did. I used to play videos in front of me and the environment itself used to change to motivational and dedicated study hours watching people studying sincerely it felt like I am sitting in quiet library.
But here’s the catch: Sometimes background noise and distractions can affect sessions also you need proper focus no distractions while watching videos without using social-media.
What Worked:
- A calm motivational surrounding to study for hours
What Didn’t:
- Needs proper silent room without distraction and sounds.
Rating: ★★★★★ (9/10)
5. TikTok-Inspired Morning Study Routines — Romanticizing Discipline
What it is: It is basically fixing some daily morning routine to start a day in well organized manner. It is all about consistency and dedication that increase energy to study and stay motivated throughout day.
What I did – I m actually a night owl. This morning routine was really tough for me. I used to wake up at 6 am and start my day with lemon water and some workout session than I used to eat some berries and other fruits and start with my first study slot.

But here’s the catch: Honestly it worked for 3-4 days that’s it and I used to feel sleepy and next week I hit snooze and scrolled through memes in bed.
What Worked:
- Helped in making me disciplined and start a fresh morning with good boost
What Didn’t:
- Waking up that early was not sustainable for me and sometimes consistency breaks
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (6/10)
Here’s my personal ranking, based on effectiveness and ease of use:
1. “Study With Me” Sessions (9/10)
2. Pomodoro Technique (8.5/10)
3. Color-Coded Notes (8/10)
4. Notion Dashboards (6.5/10)
5. Morning Routines (6/10)
I realized that the best productivity method isn’t the trendiest one - it’s the one that fits your brain. I’m keeping the Pomodoro + YouTube combo as my new power duo.
StudyTok is not a perfect fit for all and productivity depends upon you while some hacks helped me study smarter and memorize things smartly and organize things in better way others were just aesthetic vibes. I suggest to not feel pressured to try everything- do what fits you the best. I must say the most productive way is to start and initiate right now because aesthetic notes are cool, but understanding the content? That’s the real flex.
