Get Your Popcorn Ready: a Guide to the Most Eagerly-Anticipated Movies in 2023

These past few years have been tough, and movies were one of the most incredible things in 2020. Cuddling up on the couch or your bed with a loved person or pet was the best pastime for most people back then, and still is. Although producers made many iconic movies in 2022, many more are coming this year.

Scary, comedy, action, romance, no matter your taste, you will find movies just for you. In most ways, the captivating films made last year created a clear path for the new ones.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

The long-awaited third movie arrives! An action-packed film starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly is a must-see. Even though the team delayed it a year, the third round is the best yet.

If you love adventure, suspense, and being on the edge of your seat, this movie is definitely for you. When superheroes Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne reunite, they explore the Quantum Realm with Hope's parents, Hank and Janet, and Scott's daughter, Cassie. The family interacts with strange new creatures and embarks on adventures that will push their limits farther than they could ever imagine. With crazy stories and unique animals, what's there not to love?

Scream VI

The "Scream" movies have always been pleasers to anyone that enjoys a good thriller. With Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera returning as the iconic sisters, this movie is guaranteed to be the best. Other amazing actors, such as Courtney Cox and Hayden Panettiere, are also returning.

Following the most recent Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave their beloved home, Woodsboro, behind and restart with a clean slate in New York City. Not long after, they find themselves fighting for their lives again after a new killer launches on a bloody rampage.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Everyone loves the Super Mario Brothers, and they are back at it again. If this teaser picture doesn't catch your eye, I don't know what will. With help from the always lovely Princess Peach, Mario gets ready to battle with the all-powerful Bowser to stop him in his tracks with his plans to take over the world. Chris Pratt plays Mario, which brings a whole new level of comedic relief to this upcoming film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy has always kept people entertained. This is Chris Pratt's second big movie this year, and he returns to his traditional role as Peter Quill, or Star-Lord, to those in the know. I know I could barely sit still when I saw this movie trailer!

The iconic group looks a little different, but the excitement is still the same. While Peter Quill is getting over the loss of Gamora, he must gather his team of misfits to help defend the universe and protect one of their own. A quest that, if not completed successfully, could end the Guardians as we know it.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid has always been a childhood staple in almost every little girl's life. Between the excitement and suspense, it is one of my favorite movies. This new twist to Ariel and her life is something that everyone should experience.

When Triton's younger and most defiant daughter visits the shore, she falls for Prince Eric. Although mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel has to follow her heart. With new twists and turns, watching this movie will be a necessity.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

The SpiderMan movies have always been a massive part of the Marvel movie community. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a huge hit with critics and won an Oscar. This movie was one of the most anticipated movies of 2022 until it was pushed to 2023.

Miles Morales returns for the next phase of the Spider-Man saga, an epic adventure when Spider-Man gets transported across the Multiverse to assist Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-people to battle a villain more powerful than they could ever imagine. This will be the perfect movie to start the summer, coming out on June 2, 2023.

Barbie dolls have been the perfect gift for any little girl since the beginning. The Barbie movies and TV shows have lived up to that legacy perfectly. There will be a live-action movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

I have yet to mention the return of America Ferrara from Ugly Betty and the iconic Will Ferrell. There are no plot twists or scary characters, just the simple adventures of the legendary duo Barbie and Ken. There isn't much to talk about, just that this movie will add to the extraordinary saga of Barbie. What's there not to love?

The Marvels

Another addition to the Marvel series for 2023, The Marvels, is a sequel, all about the further adventures of Captain Marvel. Since this movie is coming out on November 10, 2023, there is barely any information about it. We all know that Brie Larson is returning to play Captain Carol, and Samuel L.

Jackson will return as Nick Fury, one of my favorite roles. One of the best things about Marvel is that each movie paves a clear pathway for a new film to come.

The Willy Wonka books and movies have always been a time-honored tradition. Timothée Chalamet fills the offbeat shoes of a juvenile Willy Wonka in this origin story, which portrays the maturing chocolatier as he crosses paths with the Oompa-Loompas. Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Keegan Michael-Key, and Rowan Atkinson fine-tuned the cast, while Paul King, who enjoyed massive critical success with his two Paddington films, takes the wheel.

Once again, there is not much to say about this film, as the release day is not until December 15, 2023. This movie is more of a prequel and will show how the amazing Willy Wonka came to be.

Legally Blonde 3

I'm still determining everyone else, but I know that when I saw this movie on the list, I got so excited!! Elle Woods has been a role model for millions of young girls. Elle pushed through awful comments, being dumped by her fiance, finding her new true love, and so much more. There is no description yet, except "The next installment in the franchise." Reese Witherspoon will be making a comeback as Elle Woods, and there have been confirmed rumors that Jennifer Coolidge will return to put the cherry on top. They are still determining if this movie's release date will be in 2023, but I hope it is.

As you can see, so many incredible movies will be available this year, and there are only 10 of them. Approximately 247 movies are coming out this year, based on the number of movies there are in total. Some may say that watching movies is a waste of time, but seeing all the different kinds of films with other characters and storylines can broaden someone's imagination just as much as reading a book. When you are sick, injured, tired, or want a break, snuggling up on the couch is one of the best things to do, and watching these movies will help that favorite pastime.
