8 Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday While Social Distancing

It might be difficult to celebrate your birthday while in quarantine. You don’t want to miss out on momentous moments like blowing out candles or opening presents. As seen on the popular app Tik Tok, many are celebrating their birthdays in rather creative ways. Whether it’s blowing out candles with a mini fan or singing Happy Birthday through face time calls, people are finding ways to continue the celebration. To add to the list, I’ve put together a few popular ideas to celebrate your birthday while social distancing.

1. Birthday Slideshow

A birthday slideshow is always a great way to put a smile on your loved one's face! Whether it’s for a friend or a family member this idea is perfect for anyone of any age. Put together a video of all their friends and family members saying “Happy Birthday”, add in music and lastly send it to them on their special day.

2. Electronic Gathering

While a birthday party is not the best idea at the moment, an electronic gathering is! To throw your birthday party in a safe style, set up as many phones, iPads and laptops as possible to FaceTime your friends, to make it seem as if they were there with you on your special day!

3. Zoom Celebration

The app Zoom is the new way of communicating with large groups. If you have a large family but can’t all be together on your birthday due to self-isolation, don’t worry, Zoom allows up to 100 people on a call. This makes it a great way to have your family surrounding you while you blow out your candles with the mini fan!

4. Netflix Party

Movie nights are always fun with your friends, but in times where we can’t all be together, we can use Netflix Party! Netflix Party is an add-on to your Netflix account that allows you and your friends to watch a movie or show together on Chrome browsers on desktop or laptop computers! Not only can you watch the movie, but also chat about it in the chat section. It’s a great way to celebrate your birthday with your friends!

5. Drive-By Party

Want to see your friends on your birthday but still keep a safe distance? In order to do so, have a drive-by party! This is the best way to keep your distance while still seeing your friends' smiling faces when they drive by your house wishing you a happy birthday. All your friends can drive down your street holding posters and honking their horns to make it clear to the whole neighborhood that it’s your special day!

6. Club Quarantine

If it’s someone in your family’s 21st birthday during this time of quarantine, make sure to turn their frown upside down! Remind them they can still have a blast by turning your house into club quarantine. Your mom could be the bartender and your dad the bouncer, and make sure you have colored lights, good music and have a fun and safe time!

7. Bake a Cake

It’s always fun to bake a cake and the results are almost always delicious! Instead of buying your birthday cake from the supermarket, make your own, this way you can customize your cake however you would like. There are many amazing recipes online that you can either read or watch to learn which ingredients to use. Pick any flavors and decorations from your wildest dreams!

8. Spa B-day

If you don’t like to party hard but instead enjoy a rather relaxing birthday, a spa b-day is perfect for you! Either run a bubbly bath or do a face mask, and top it off by painting your nails. If you don’t have any pre-made face masks in your house, you can make your own! Foods such as avocado, oatmeal, egg whites, honey and yogurt are all great for the skin and therefore are incorporated into many face or foot mask recipes. Lastly, relax and take a break from your busy life!
