January 05, 2022

Watching KDramas during the holiday season is one of the best ways to relax after a stressful time either working or studying. Here are the top 5 KDramas I highly recommend to you.

1. Reply 1988 (2015)

Reply 1988 is the last series of 'Reply', which has been receiving lots of attention and love from fans. Besides love, the drama also brings us simple, warm-hearted, and captivating family stories.

Neither being rich nor having a well-off life, the parents in this series always want to save the best for their children, including the innocent Deok Sun, the genius Choi Taek, the hesitant Jung Hwan, the dutiful Sun Woo, the bossy Bo Ra, and the humorous Dong-ryung. All of these characters will make you have a wonderful holiday with mixed emotions, tears, and smiles.

Unlike Reply 1997 and Reply 1994, which were mainly about a teenager's love, Reply 1988 with lots of funny circumstances about family will make you have a joyful holiday. After watching this series, I realized that the most simple things can bring the most happiness, and your happiness might come from your loved one's happiness.

2. Goblin (2016)

Goblin is, in my opinion, one of the most excellent dramas. It has everything that a perfect K-drama has: exceptional music, fashion style, and poetic scenes.

The romantic but also tragic love between the goblin - Kim Shin, and his bride successfully won the viewer's hearts due to the show’s painful reality: the existence of his bride is the sign of his death. They just can't be together and hold others' hands until the end of life.

Moreover, the characters’ dialogues about life and love include lots of innovative, beautiful quotes, making the viewers ponder, sob, even laugh.

The artistic scenes were filmed in Canada, emphasizing the film’s unique 'maple leaf', together with the soft music constantly overwhelming the audience with its heartbreakingly beautiful footage in each episode. The talent, passion of the cast, and crew made an impressive masterpiece that contributed a lot to the evolution of the Korean film industry.

3. Crash landing on you (2020)

Crash Landing On You was a huge drama hit in 2020. The most influential factor in this movie is the well-executed and excellent cast, even the supporting characters, like the F5, the neighbors, and the secondary duo roles.

Having lots of unpredictable, intense plot twists, this drama keeps its viewers to the end. We can see the crew put lots of effort into the movie's color, cinematography, fashion, and music. They tried their best to create cultural and architectural differences between South and North Korea, to create a love story between an heiress and an army officer hindered by politics.

Not only the sweet chemistry of the main couple, but you will also see the cuteness and joviality of the North Korean people that haven't been revealed before.

4. Descendant of the Sun (2016)

Descendant of the Sun, a groundbreaking drama played by Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, has attracted huge numbers of viewers all over the world: its rating was up to 31%. The series’ unique plot about patriotism, responsibility, and the military, besides love, is the main factor in creating the highlight.

The series features the love story of Yoo Shin Jin, a captain from the South Korean Special Forces, and Kang Mo Yeon, a warm and tender-hearted doctor. They both put all their effort, passion, and ambition into serving the country. They are always willing to help everyone, regardless of age and wealth.

Their love footage and benevolence are all perfectly demonstrated in each episode: the earthquake and landing scene.

Moreover, Descendant of the Sun is rated as one of the best movie soundtracks ever in KDramas. For me, the song Everytime by Chen (EXO) and Punch is so impressive that I think you should check it out.

5. Hospital Playlist (2020)

Hospital Playlist is a soul-healing drama that's about the ordinary life of 5 doctors working together in a hospital. They are all excellent, passionate people, who always do their best for the patients.

You'll see lots of funny and humorously pathetic moments in a 20-year friendship. They rely on and support each other whenever one of them struggles with marriage, family, or job issues.

These 5 friends even have a " Mido and Falasol" band, which is their shared love for music. This drama will definitely light up your holidays, store you more strength and energy for your working days.

This official teaser partly shows us why the Hospital playlist is recommendable.

You can find these 5 series on any "best K-Drama '' or “KDrama should watch '' lists as they all have made new breezes for the Korean film industry. We can see their perfect job on plot, creativity, characters, and entertainment values. Also, it will be more meaningful if you spend time watching the series with your friends and family.

Have a wonderful and relaxed holiday, and Happy New Year!
