March 26, 2022

Watching a light-hearted romance drama is always fun, especially during Covid. The perfect storyline with the right amount of chemistry is all you need to sit in front of Netflix all day. Here are my top favorite dramas that I can rewatch again and again, without being bored.

1. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon features a woman born with supernatural strength (Park Bo Young) who's hired as a bodyguard by the CEO of a gaming company (Park Hyun Sik). This series was a commercial hit and became one of the highest-rated Korean dramas in cable television history. The drama features crime, romance, and is filled with funny moments that can be watched by any age group. You can watch this at Amazon Prime, Viki, Dramacool, Disney Plus, or Netflix (limited areas).

2. Weightlifting Fairy

Weighlifting fairy is a coming-of-age story about a group of athletes in college fighting for their dreams, experiencing love in the process. The story features Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung-Kyung) who is a weightlifter, developing a crush on her friend Jung Joon-Hyung's (Nam Joo-Hyuk) older brother, Jung Jae-Yi (Lee Jae-Yoon). It was popular with the young audience, as it was inspired by the life of an Olympic gold-medalist Jang Mi-ran. You can stream it on Viki, Kocowa, and Netflix (limited areas).

3. F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers

Based on the Japanese series Boys over Flowers, this ongoing series features Gorya who gets accepted into a prestigious and luxurious school and encounters an elite clique known as the F4, ultimately falling for one of them. The relationship features a comedic duo and talks about the differences between wealth among families. The show has been remade into a Chinese and Korean version, known as Meteor Garden and Boys over Flowers, both on Netflix.

4. Business Proposal

The comedy is strong in this ongoing romantic-comedy, starting Shin Ha-Ri who goes on a blind date, taking the place of her friend Jin Yeong-Seo but instead ends up in front of her cold boss. She goes through with the date and is surprised when he asks her to marry him. Based on The Office Blind Date by HaeHwa, it gives justice to both the main lead and the second lead; no more second-lead syndrome!

5. True Beauty

Based on the Line Webtoon of the same name by Yaongyi, it centers on a high school girl who, after being bullied and discriminated against because of being perceived as ugly, masters the art of makeup to transform herself into a gorgeous "goddess", specifically catching the eyes of two classmates, Lee Suho and Han Seo-Jun. The drama features funny friendships and is a light-hearted drama to watch for laughs between couples and bromance.

I loved watching all these dramas, as they were fun and romantic to watch. Some of these dramas are less popular than others, but they are still very enjoyable. Have fun!
