The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala - Met Gala for short - is an annual fundraiser that marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's yearly fashion exhibition, held in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. This exclusive event that raises money for the Costume Institute of the Met Museum is hosted by Vogue and chaired by none other than its editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
Each year, the Gala revolves around a specific theme that directly ties into the Costume Institute’s exhibition, with both the exhibit and the red carpet reflecting that concept in bold and often theatrical ways.
However, if you're wondering how to score an invite to the Met Gala, the answer is simple: you don't - unless Anna herself doesn't invite you. This event is famous for its invite-only policy, which is carefully curated and planned throughout the year. Only the most exclusive and famous designers, pop stars, actors, editors, billionaires, etc., are invited to the fundraiser, so if you're not an A-lister, fashion royalty, or Anna Wintour's favorite barista, you probably won't be invited.

Theme Talk
On Monday, May 5th, the Met will open its doors again but with a new exhibition titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The exhibition is centered around the evolution of Black style through the course of over three hundred years! It is divided into 12 sections, such as Disguise, Freedom, Heritage, Beauty, and Cosmopolitanism, and will explore and celebrate the style of Black dandies all the way back from the 18th century until the present day.
The visitors will be able to see not only the garments and accessories but also paintings, photographs, and much more. It is a powerful tribute to the way dressing helped in forming identity and resistance among Black people across the centuries.
So what is the dress code then? As announced earlier this year, the dress code will be Tailored for You. In line with the exhibition's focus on menswear, this year’s theme invites guests to redefine what tailoring means, both stylistically and culturally.
Be Their Guest
As previously mentioned, every year the event is chaired and organized by Anna Wintour. However, in addition to Wintour, the Met Gala often includes several co-chairs who are prominent figures from various fields such as fashion, entertainment, sports, and music. These co-chairs play a significant role in promoting the event, influencing its theme, and setting the tone for the evening.
The 2025 Met Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams alongside Wintour, with LeBron James as the honorary co-chair. In addition to that, the Gala is set to have a host committee with names such as Ayo Edebiri, Tyla, Doechii, and Usher being included. This line-up surely guarantees one thing: this year's Gala will be a spectacle to remember!

Behind the Curtains
After all of this, you might be wondering - what happens after the celebrities enter the museum? Easy, we don't know! As the Met Gala is strictly a no-phone policy event, nobody clearly knows how the event really unfolds. However, there are certain things we are aware of, such as: the guests are wining and dining as well as enjoying a performance by one (or two) of their fellow pop star colleagues who are chosen to perform that year.
While this year's performer hasn't been announced yet, we can expect only the best, as the previous years have featured artists such as Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Madonna, and many other legendary music icons!
RSVP!
Who will we see this year? As the event usually hosts around 450 most exclusive guests, ranging from celebrities to billionaire funders and Anna's personal picks, it's hard to tell who will be attending. Although the guest list doesn't get officially published, celebrities like Zendaya, Rihanna, and even Beyoncé and Jay-Z are expected to show up!
While we can only speculate about our favorite celebrities attending, these familiar faces are guaranteed to show up alongside co-chairs and host committee: Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony, and Ego Nwodim will be hosting this year's livestream (which you can watch across all Vogue's digital platforms!) and interviewing the guests!
Looks like this year’s Met Gala promises to be a dazzling celebration of identity and culture, where fashion becomes a canvas for self-expression and history is woven into every stitch. So set your reminders, bring your friends, and channel your inner Miranda Priestly as we are only days away from the biggest pop culture event of the year!
