If you're active on the Internet, you've probably already watched K-Pop Demon Hunters and have almost definitely heard of it. Released just a few months ago, it has already become Netflix's most watched movie of all time. The soundtrack was also a hit, with 'Golden' hitting No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and a number of other songs also making the top 10.
And with the movie's visual appeal, amazing music and heart-warming (but bitter-sweet) storyline, its popularity is no surprise! Of course, granted the huge success of the first film, fans have begun to wonder: will there be a sequel?

K-Pop Demon Hunters followed Huntrix, a K-Pop girl group designed to fight demons, using their singing to maintain the Honmoon, a magical barrier designed to prevent demons from crossing over into the human realm. The ruler of the demons is known as Gwi-Ma. The demons come up with an innovative solution to this problem: they form a K-Pop boy group called the Saja Boys and quickly rise to fame.
Rumi of Huntrix and Jinu of the Saja Boys form a bond and agree to work together, but their partnership ends abruptly when Jinu betrays Rumi, and reveals that she is actually part demon. Huntrix is split up by this reveal for a short while, before coming together at the end to fight Gwi-Ma. Jinu sacrifices himself, giving his soul to Rumi so she, along with the rest of Huntrix, can defeat Gwi-Ma.

Is the Sequel Confirmed?
As of now, the sequel has not yet been completely confirmed. However, Maggie Kang, the movie's director, as well as some other crew members, already have plans for what another movie could look like. It seems there are current discussions between the film's directors and Sony (who made the film but then sold the right to Netflix), and apparently there are also talks going on between Sony and Netflix. These aren't just baseless rumours circulating the Internet: they're coming from legitimate sources, like Forbes and the Hollywood Reporter.

Given the fact that the sequel has not been officially confirmed, it should come as no surprise that we don't have a release date either. However, given that it took a number of years for the first movie to be made, it should be a couple years before we get a second one. Remember, a lot of work goes into producing high-quality movies like this one!
What Would Another Movie Look Like? (Spoilers!)
According to Maggie Kang, the director, a second movie would be an opportunity to dive into the backstories of the members of Huntrix. She said there wasn't enough space in the movie to include them the first time around. This would certainly be interesting to see, and would give viewers an opportunity to get to know Rumi, Zoey and Mira better!
And then there's the question everyone's been waiting for: what about Jinu? Will he be brought back from seemingly beyond the grave? Rumi's voice actor, Arden Cho, has left us with an encouraging message on this topic. She said, “I would love to see if we can rescue Jinu! It is a magical world, right? I feel like the options are endless, and our incredible writers and directors left it a bit open. Anything is possible.”
And although this doesn't give us confirmation that Jinu will return, it raises some important points. Yes, it appeared that Jinu died at the end of the first movie, but this is a world where demons are real and singing can get rid of them from the human realm, so it's not that crazy of a prospect that Jinu could still appear in upcoming sequels!
Honestly, given the popularity of Jinu (and Rujinu!), and the build-up between him and Rumi, it's more likely that he is saved than not. Another question is whether the other Saja Boys will return, and while this is less likely, it is entirely possible, especially considering that this is a movie partly directed towards kids.
Overall, as Paul Tassi from Forbes notes, given the popularity of K-Pop Demon Hunters and the amount of money it made, it's not a question of if we get a sequel, it's a question of when. In the meantime, we should make sure to give the creators the respect and support they deserve, without pressuring them to come up with a new movie!
