If you're into techno, you have definitely heard of LOVRA before. From starting as an art student to earning the prestigious opportunity of being a Coachella performer, LOVRA has been on an incredible journey of success.

The Teen Magazine had the amazing chance to interview her, where we discussed all things music, inspiration, and future.

Being a female powerhouse in the techno world, LOVRA has broken down every wall in her path and has inspired many young girls, including myself. This conversation has inspired me to never forget my dreams, and I hope that her messages inspire you all, too.

From Art Student to DJ

LOVRA was not a musician from the very start, unlike many other EDM and house artists we know today. Instead, she was an art student with a deep curiosity for audio and music.

Art is a form of expression, and she wanted to express herself differently than the visual arts she usually did. She moved to Berlin and started music production, uploading her first track, which was a remake of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On".

This track blew up on SoundCloud. "Universal LA released it officially, and that’s when I knew this was my passion," says LOVRA on this breakout moment.

LOVRA then began learning how to produce and DJ, which became "the best decision of her life."

"One day, everything will click - the sound, the feeling, the confidence - and that’s when the magic happens!" LOVRA shared.

The Distinct Y2K Blend

LOVRA's music is famous for its blend of modern house with Y2K beats, which is such a truly iconic take on music.

"The 2000s have always had this crazy, timeless vibe - everyone loves that era. The sound, the attitude, the melodies - it was bold, emotional, and unapologetically fun!" she says. "I’ve always felt super connected to that energy. For me, it’s not hard to blend those early 2000s influences with modern house music, because it just feels natural."

"I love bringing that nostalgic Y2K flavor into today’s beats," LOVRA says, "It’s like taking the best parts of that time and catapulting them straight into the now."

Her distinct sound is what makes people move, which is exactly what she wants her music to do.

Finding Balance Amidst Tours

For LOVRA, the stage is where she is herself; it's the best feeling for her. Even during this interview, she was on tour, which can be pretty draining for many artists.

But, tours do not drain this beatmaker. Instead, LOVRA loves the adrenaline the tours give. To her, the entire process is inspiring: from different cities to different cultures, it fills her up with energy. "Sharing my music with people all over the world, feeling that energy on the dancefloor and connecting with different cultures and cities - that gives me so much," she says.

However, she slows things down when she gets home. "I spend time with my cat, paint a lot, and just enjoy being in my own space again. Sometimes I’ll do a digital detox, get an IV drip, hit the sauna, or just have a proper spa day," she says.

"Those quiet moments balance the chaos, but the truth is, the stage is where I feel most alive - to be on stage is the best feeling ever for me!"

Handing Big Pressure

Performing on big stages like Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Parookaville is no small feat. Many artists feel immense pressure when they have to perform on these big stages, but not LOVRA.

"I don’t really see it as pressure, I see it as power," says the DJ. "The moment I step on stage and feel the crowd, everything just locks in. It’s not about fear or expectation anymore, it’s about connection. That energy, that exchange - it’s what I live for."

"Of course, it’s a huge responsibility to stand in front of so many people, but I channel it. I’ve learned to trust myself, trust my sound and just be fully in the moment. That’s when I’m the calmest, actually - when the music takes over. For me, that’s not pressure, that’s freedom."

Breaking Stereotypes

Techno is a male-dominated field, but LOVRA stands out as one of the few women techno musicians. The male domination was not a limitation for her, but instead it motivated her to create her own path.

"I’m super grateful to be where I am and to see so many amazing women coming up in the scene right now. When I started, it was definitely a very male-dominated space, but I never saw that as a limitation - more as motivation to create my own lane," she says.

The musician also hopes to introduce this scene to more women through DJ workshops. "I try to give back to the scene and create more space for women in it," she says. "I host DJ workshops with Pioneer and at my own events under my brand Housecat, I make sure to feature female talent and run DJ contests to spotlight new artists. It’s important to me to keep that energy moving - to lift others up and make sure the next generation feels seen."

"Being called a role model is wild, but if my journey inspires someone to believe in themselves and take up space, that’s the best feeling ever! I just do what I love, and if that helps open doors for others, that’s something I’m really proud of.

Music gave me a voice and now I want to use it to make others feel heard too. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about: connection, empowerment, and love through sound!"

Talking Future

When asked about where she saw herself five years from now, LOVRA highlighted how the fame and the numbers are not what's most important; it's the creativity and sound. "It’s about evolving, staying inspired, and keeping the passion real," says the DJ.

"I’m really proud of how far things have come, but honestly, I feel like I’m just getting started. In five years, I see myself taking Housecat to the next level - growing it as both a label and a movement, pushing new artists, and building a space where creativity and community come first."

"I want to keep creating music that connects people, no matter where they’re from. I want to build something that lasts - a feeling, a sound, a moment that people remember."

I truly love my community - without them, none of this would be possible. I still have a lot of dreams, and I know I’ll keep chasing them with the same love I started with."

Words of Advice

For any young adults and teenagers looking into getting into music and the creative industry, LOVRA advises that one should go all in.

"I’ve always believed that if you truly feel something in your heart, you should just go for it - fully, fearlessly, and without waiting for permission," she shares.

"I never questioned my path; I just followed my passion and trusted that it would take me somewhere real. And that’s what I tell every young artist: believe in your vision, even when no one else understands it yet! There will be moments when it’s hard, when things don’t go as planned, but that’s part of the process."
