Everyone’s Crush, Everyone’s Playlist: the World Falls for CORTIS

Before you knew their names, you knew their faces. Before you heard the EP, you were already humming along. CORTIS is BigHit Music’s first new boy group in six years, following TXT (Tomorrow X Together).

Their name stands for “Color Outside the Lines,” a phrase that signals thinking freely and breaking away from established standards and rules. BigHit Music, now part of HYBE, is home to world-renowned artists such as BTS, TXT, and Lee Hyun.

The five members of CORTIS are Martin, the leader of the group despite being only 17 and one of the youngest; James, a former member of the trainee group Trainee A (I miss Trainee A); Juhoon, another of CORTIS’s talented young teens; Seonghyeon, who helped write all five songs on the group’s debut EP Color Outside the Lines; and finally the maknae, Keonho, who has already been crowned the 5th-gen It Boy.

Songs That Spill Outside the Lines

Not even exaggerating when I say I’m obsessed, I'm LIKE OBSESSED. Everything just makes sense and is perfect. My favourite songs have to be GO!

and faSHioN. They perfectly capture the energy that made me fall for CORTIS in the first place and show off their playful but polished vibe.

I love the group and their songs so much that I’d order their album if I weren’t broke :(( BUT YOU GUYS SHOULD. The GO! MV is just them goofing around and having fun like normal teens would do, it’s so wholesome and fun to watch. All their songs are so good, I have the album on repeat, not even lying.

My favourite parts of the songs are when they actually name-drop a member of the group. faSHioN has that line about Keonho, “Keonho, no matter what you say about my clothes,” and GO! has a lyric about Martin that goes “Martin (that’s so fire).” I think that is such a cool thing for them to do.

The best part? All members contributed to the success of the album. James helped with three songs on the group’s EP Color Outside the Lines (GO!

, JoyRide, and Lullaby) and even participated in the choreography for GO!. Martin helped with all five songs on the EP. Juhoon helped with four songs on the EP (GO!, What You Want, faSHioN, and JoyRide). Seonghyeon also helped with all five songs and participated in the choreography for GO!. Keonho helped with four songs as well (GO!, What You Want, faSHioN, and JoyRide) and also took part in the GO! Choreography.

Idols, but Make It DIY

These guys aren’t just idols, they’re creators, and you can hear it in every track. These dudes are insanely talented and don’t take this as a grain of salt. Back when James was in Trainee A (stop, I might cry), everyone knew he loved producing, but no one was truly aware of his real potential.

Trainee A was such a comfort group for me. I used to watch their vlogs whenever I felt down, and their lives on YouTube were always so chaotic and fun. I was with them from the very start, all the way until they disbanded :((.

After the Trainee A project was discontinued, we slowly got news about what the ex-members were up to, with Leo debuting as a solo artist and Sangwon being active on Instagram (both are now on Boys Planet 2, GO VOTE FOR THEM), Jihoon debuting in TWS under Pledis Entertainment in 2024, Yorch debuting in Pow, Woochan debuting in AllDay Project under The Black label, and JJ being a part of SMTR25.

Everyone wondered where James was, and then, finally, fans found him, in the credits of songs, doing what he loved the most. James produced for TXT (Deja Vu and Miracle from minisode 3: TOMORROW) and ILLIT (Magnetic from SUPER REAL ME). He was a backup dancer for BTS Jungkook’s song Seven ft.

Latto. He performed during Inkigayo and AGUST D’s D-DAY The Final concert.

Before his debut, he also participated in creating choreography, including TXT’s Deja Vu and ILLIT’s Magnetic and Cherish (My Love). While creating the melody for ILLIT’s Magnetic, James danced along to it; the producer liked it so much that they filmed him and ended up using it as the actual choreography.

But don’t be under the impression that just one member is an all-rounder, because trust, all of them are all-rounders. Martin, alongside the members, produced and helped with the songs on their EP. But it’s not just his album that he contributed to.

The list of his production credits is HUGE. He wrote for, produced, and composed ILLIT’s Magnetic. He also wrote for and composed TXT’s Deja Vu and Miracle from the same album. Let’s not forget ENHYPEN’s Outside, which he composed and wrote the lyrics for. And this is just the tip of the iceberg; this guy is so talented that this article would get so lengthy if I were to talk about all his production credits.

Juhoon, so far, according to public knowledge, has helped with CORTIS’s debut album, but don’t be under the impression of him being a rookie. He was a former child model and appeared in the 2022 CF for Galaxy Z Flip4 with IVE’s Jang Wonyoung. He has appeared in various music videos of other artists too, such as VIXX’s Scientist back in 2018 and Zion.T’s Hello Tutorial.

Seonghyeon, as mentioned previously, has helped with all five songs on the album and the choreography of GO!. He has around 100 tracks which he worked on as a trainee, which in my words is quite literally INSANE LIKE WHAT??? How does one do that? That’s just pure talent right there.

And finally, the youngest of the group, who’s just an '09 liner, Keonho has already been given the title 5TH Gen IT Boy because people all over the world love him so much and are OBSESSED. But his looks and cuteness are not the only reasons people love him. He’s loved because, despite being so young, he has already helped with four songs of CORTIS’s debut album and the choreography of GO! Too.

They even have a documentary out "What We Want" and it honestly hits in a different way. It takes you back to their trainee days and follows them all the way to their debut. You get to see the late-night studio sessions, the endless choreography practice, the tired faces mixed with random bursts of laughter, the small victories when a melody or move finally clicks. There is Martin scribbling lyrics in a notebook, James sitting at the computer tweaking beats, Keonho running through his parts again and again until it feels right.

It makes their whole DIY vibe feel so real. Instead of polished promo clips you get to watch the actual process of this group coming together, which makes every performance now feel bigger because you’ve seen what went into it.

The Look That Launched a Thousand Reposts

CORTIS isn’t just making songs; they’re making a whole aesthetic. Their style is straight up FUTURISTIC STREET EDGE. Oversized or cropped jackets, leather and reflective fabrics, layers on layers, buckles, zips, chunky sneakers, and boots.

Everything is comfy enough to dance in, but looks like an editorial shoot at the same time. Chains and rings and straps everywhere. Sharp and bold and a bit rebellious, but still full of energy. It’s exactly the vibe of Color Outside the Lines.

And the members? Obsessed. Keonho is the maknae and already the breakout visual.

His teasers are insane, clean makeup, and lighting that makes his face pop. People copy his hair and makeup and even the muted vintage colours he likes to wear, trying to get that same fresh but sharp look.

Martin gives total leader energy with structured outerwear, metallic touches, and layered fits. Everyone pins their jackets and jewellery for inspo. James is the bold performance guy with flowy tops, mesh, cut-outs, and sneakers that go hard.

Juhoon has model vibes, clean minimal styling, subtle textures, and little blue accents. Seonghyeon is the understated cool one, monochrome fits, sleek black lines, small chains or earrings, soft hair, and makeup. All of them have their own style, and people are eating it up.

They don’t even have brand deals yet, but their mix of streetwear and luxe textures is already everywhere on moodboards. My feed is literally full of CORTIS right now. Their songs, fancams, Insta edits, Pinterest boards, photo dumps.

People are saving, reposting, remaking everything. CORTIS is everywhere, and I’m not mad about it.

The Internet’s New Favourite Boys

It’s not just me who’s OBSESSED. Open literally any app and there they are. My For You Page is full of CORTIS edits.

My Instagram explore is CORTIS's fancams and moodboards. Twitter threads are people arguing over their favourite track on the EP. Keonho’s teasers went viral so fast that “5th gen IT Boy” started trending before the debut stage even dropped. Fans are already making challenges with GO! and faSHioN, remixing them into edits, doing makeup tutorials to match the concept photos, and translating interviews for international fans.

They have only just debuted, but it feels like they have been around forever. Follower counts jump every time a new clip drops. Hashtags trend in minutes.

Pinterest boards, TikTok transitions, fancams, reaction videos, my feed is just a wall of CORTIS. They are rookies, but they are already getting called the future of 5th-gen K-pop, and honestly, it makes sense. Everyone online is talking about them because they are fun to watch, they are talented, and they feel fresh.

Proof They’re THAT Group

CORTIS has only just started, and they are already breaking records. Their debut EP Color Outside the Lines sold over 436,000 copies in its first week, the highest first-week sales of any group to debut in 2025 and the fourth highest first-week sales for a debut album in K-pop history.

GO!’s MV hit 10 million views in under a month, their TikTok passed two million followers in just seventeen days, and their songs keep charting on Spotify and Apple Music around the world. These are not rookie numbers.

They are proof that a group built on creativity, effort and heart can grab the whole world’s attention. Watching them now feels like watching history start to write itself, and it is so exciting to think about where they will go next.

When the Line Gets Crossed

Something really messed up happened recently, and it blew up online. Fans were actually recording CORTIS members while they were changing backstage. They are minors.

They were changing. People stuck cameras through gaps in a backstage tent and filmed them. Martin, who is only seventeen, noticed and moved away. The internet went crazy because it was so creepy, invasive, and completely over the line.

What makes it even worse is how normal some people act about it, like it is just part of idol culture. It is not. It is dangerous, especially when some members are still underage.

But even if they were older, it would still be a total invasion. Consent and privacy should never be optional. A lot of fans are finally defending boundaries, calling out those videos and asking agencies to protect the boys better. Privacy tents, guards, and umbrellas are not props; they are basic protection.

It hits different when you remember how young they are and how fast everything is moving, the songs, the edits, the fame. It should not matter what age they are; no one deserves to be filmed without permission. It is good that more people are finally saying “enough.” This is not “fans being fans,” it is about privacy and respect and standing up for those things when the people you admire are also human beings.

After the Hype: What’s Next for CORTIS

So what happens after their debut? Martin has already said he hopes the public sees CORTIS as “pursuing the aesthetics of the next generation,” a group that is unique and free to express themselves. Juhoon has talked about wanting people to find CORTIS fresh because they tried to bring that freshness into their songs, videos, and choreographies.

And Keonho keeps it simple. He wants the entire world to know CORTIS’ name.

They are not talking about staying safe or fitting in. They are talking about being remembered. Right now, everything about them feels new and a little rebellious, but the real test will be how they keep that energy alive as they grow.

More music, bigger stages, brand deals, and world tours. If they keep putting as much of themselves into every track and performance as they did with their debut, the hype will not just be a moment; it will be the start of something huge.
