According to Wanderlust Magazine, Vancouver’s love for cherry blossom trees started about a hundred years ago when the mayors of Kobe and Yokohama gave 500 trees to be planted at the Stanley Park cenotaph to honor Japanese Canadian soldiers who fought in World War I. Over the years, Japanese-Canadian people added even more trees, and now there are more than 40,000 cherry blossoms all over the city!
