Ready for Summer? Don’t Forget to Enjoy Spring

April 19, 2022

Spring is the season that marks the few remaining weeks of school. Spring is the season with warm weather and increased daylight hours. While spring is often categorized as a less eventful season compared to other times of the year, there are plenty of activities to participate in to thoroughly enjoy the period before summer arrives.

Some of these activities are ones that you have always wanted to do but never followed through with, while others are those you have never thought of doing. No matter what comes to mind when you think of a perfect spring, this list has something for everyone.

1. Turn Off Your Phone and Get Outside

Winter is a time when all you want to do is snuggle with a blanket on your couch while watching hours of television. While the cold weather can be nice for some time, most people are eager to get back to the warmth. Spring's weather is perfect for spending lots of time outside.

Push yourself to get out of the indoors, no matter how tempting scrolling on your phone or watching movies may be. Going on a brisk walk or simply sitting outside are often underrated activities that can have a huge impact on one's day; even the littlest task can be powerful.

2. Enjoy the Food

Even if you don't consider yourself the biggest foodie, spring brings some of the most delicious fruits and vegetables that you need to enjoy. Beets, asparagus, artichokes, arugula, apricots, avocados, kiwis, cherries, and Meyer lemons, among so many others, are some foods worth incorporating into your meals during spring. Starting my morning with a bowl of fresh, seasonal fruits has been a habit that creates a fantastic start to my day.

3. It's Time for a Picnic

We all have the perfect picture of a picnic in our minds: the scene in the movie or T.V. show with a family laying down on a checkered blanket and carrying wicker baskets. But you in no way need a checkered blanket and wicker baskets to enjoy a nice picnic with your friends or family. Simply packing up a few of your favorite foods and having lunch with those closest to you is a wonderful way to take advantage of the season.

4. Berry Picking

Contrary to popular belief, you can begin picking berries towards the end of spring, rather than in summer and early fall. Berry picking will give you a chance to relish spring's seasonal fruit and beautiful weather.

5. Start Planting a Garden

Planting a garden is an activity like no other. It is not only soothing, but your work results in tasty, fresh food that you and others can enjoy. There's no need to wait until summer to begin planting a garden. From honeydew to garlic, there are tons of options for delicious produce you can start growing during spring.

6. Take a Road Trip

With beautiful flowers and pleasant weather, spring is the perfect time to take a road trip. More importantly, destinations will be less crowded than they will be in the upcoming months.

7. Prepare for Summer

Every student both looks forward to and dreads spring. On one hand, spring indicates that the school year is soon coming to an end. But on the other hand, spring consists of getting through difficult, overwhelming assignments that pile up very quickly.

There's nothing better than preparing and thinking about summer to get your mind off of the drudgery that is schoolwork. Maybe there is a summer trip you're beginning to plan. Or maybe you are excited about a specific program you have signed up for.

There's something for everyone in spring. Whether you are a major foodie like me or someone who loves to be outdoors, spring is the perfect time to enjoy the things you love most.
