Music & Podcasts

May 28, 2025

As anticipation for global K-pop girl group Blackpink’s comeback and 2025-2026 world tour builds, member Rosé dropped her newest single.

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, just days after waving the chequered flag at the Miami F1 Grand Prix, the Billboard-topping sensation dropped “Messy,” produced by Lost Boy and Burns. The song is part of “F1: The Album,” the companion album to Brad Pitt and Damson Idris’ F1 The Movie. The album also features other popular artists alongside Rosé, such as Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, and Tate McRae.

The Music Video

The singer’s music video featured stars of the up-and-coming movie, including Brad Pitt and Kerry Condon. Brad Pitt's cameo faced some backlash from netizens who were upset because he had previously faced domestic abuse allegations. However, it is likely Rosé did not have much input regarding the cameos made in her music video, and of course, it makes sense to have the F1 movie’s stars in it.

Nevertheless, the new heights of Rosé's success and the talent the music video showcases remain indisputable. From stunning vocals to beautiful visuals, the “Messy” music video really has it all.

From K-pop songs to movie soundtracks, Rosé’s unique vocals never fail to shine through. As someone who has followed Rosé since Blackpink, I was truly mesmerized by her vocals in “Messy.” As soon as she dropped her song, I eagerly clicked into the music video, and her voice transfixed my ears. I truly thought, Yes, this is a Rosé song.

The Las Vegas locations featured in the music video, such as the Las Vegas Strip, Omnia Nightclub, Caesars Palace, and The Cosmopolitan, exude an air of grandeur and excitement.

The video opens with Rosé confidently strutting down the shining, rain-covered Vegas Strip, which was shut down to film the music video. This glittering opening wows audiences from the get-go, setting the rest of the music video up for success.

One scene that particularly stood out to me features Rosé on stage in the Omnia Nightclub. Sitting on what seems to me a mound of glittering transparent crystals, she is enveloped by blinding blue lights, glittering specks rising up all around her. The shot of her sitting is occasionally interspersed with shots of her spinning on aerial silks. This scene really added to the splendor and appeal of the entire music video, and the singer looked beautiful throughout.

In classic Rosé fashion, many of the scenes featured in this music video feature her alone, with a slightly somber tone. From close-ups to wide shots, these scenes are reminiscent of many of her previous music videos fans know and love, from "On The Ground" to "toxic till the end."

Conclusion

The amazing productions and singing in Rosé's music video set up high anticipation for F1 The Movie's eventual release on June 27, 2025, where fans can look forward to hearing her voice once again. I, for one, will be making my way to my local AMC to watch the movie—and I must admit, Rosé is a pretty big selling point for me!

"Messy" is Rosé's first release after her debut, Billboard-topping solo album, rosie, and fans can tell the singer feels much more comfortable exploring new themes, like relationships and their particularities, in her music compared to her days under YG Entertainment. Looking back, we can see a romantic relationship being explored in her 2021 release “Gone.” Now, though, it seems as if her themes have become more mature and developed, and I wonder if signing under the Black Label in addition to gearing further towards western audiences has influenced her freedom to explore different themes within her music positively. I certainly hope so.

Rosé’s newest releases, from “APT” to “Messy,” solidify her already prominent status as a global sensation. As her long-time fan, I am so happy about her latest success and can’t wait to see where she goes next!
