rosie: Rosé's New Album
When I first heard "APT.," I was instantly hooked. It was the song, with a catchy chorus and a fun game to go with it. The cherry on top was Bruno Mars, who sang along with Rosé.
Naturally, I was full of excitement for Rosé's upcoming album, named rosie for fans to see a more intimate side of Rosé. Rosé explains that Rosie is what her family and close friends call her, and by giving her album this title fans can get closer to her.
There were twelve songs in rosie, with an exclusive bonus song. Below I have listed my rankings for and thoughts on each of them.

"number one girl" was released before the album itself. My first thoughts were that this song is very raw. Lyrics like “I'd do anything to make you want me // I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be // The number one girl in your eyes” were vulnerable and, as a result, relatable.
The music video for this song was directed by Rosé herself. I like the digital camera-esque vibes of the blurry images, but the video could have been more appealing with more action or a storyline.

3am (3.5/5)
When Rosé begins the song, her voice reminds me of beabadobee's. Rosé has a high vocal range, but in this song, there were no high notes. I like the chorus, which is faster-paced than the rest of the song. Again, the lyrics are vulnerable: “The one I run to // Take my makeup off and say good night to // The one I pretty-talk and ugly-cry to.” However, the song overall did not appeal to me.
two years (5/5)
The lyrics in this song were very poetic. This song reminds me of Taylor Swift's evermore/folklore albums, which I absolutely love. Rosé sings: “You were right here before, in my arms // Now you're invisible // But the heartbreak's physical.” Although it has sleepy vibes to it, I like the song and think it is therapeutic and catchy.
toxic till the end (4/5)
The background music in the beginning reminds me of a video game, and the beat is faster than in the previous songs. It is a lot more upbeat but still breakup-esque. Interestingly, a lot of fans are interested in two lyrics: “I can forgive you for all of the things // For not givin' me back my Tiffany rings.” Rosé confirmed in a video that her ex, on which this album is based, did not steal her rings and that these lyrics are simply artistic expression. My favorite lyrics are “I'll never forgive you for one thing, my dear // You wasted my prettiest years."
The music video that accompanied this song raised a lot of discussion. This is because, in this video, Rosé has a male costar and kisses him. Usually, idols are expected to not have a romantic relationship and are criticized if they do, yet Rosé is not afraid to break free of those restrictions. After releasing this album, she opened up more about her previous relationships, prompting much support and love from fans.
drinks or coffee (3/5)
This song is also faster than the others. This is my least favorite song because it feels a little stilted. There was more “talking” instead of singing. However, I like its beat.

APT. (5/5)
This is my definite favorite song of the album. It is the perfect party song, with fun lyrics and karaoke-like dance movements. The chorus is very catchy, and Bruno Mars adds his own special touch by singing the word “gunbae” (cheers) during his section.
gameboy (4/5)
I didn't really like the beginning because it didn't seem to match with the rest of the song, but I love the chorus. I also like the play on words in these lyrics: “Yeah you'll always be a gameboy // These days I don't wanna play, boy."
stay a little longer (5/5)
The piano beats in the beginning immediately signaled that this song was going to be a ballad. It reminds me of Olivia Rodrigo's "vampire." I love how Rosé goes higher in her vocal range than she does in her previous songs because I think she has a good belting voice.
not the same (3/5)
Rosé's singing is good, but at this point in the album, I feel that the melancholy lyrics are getting repetitive. I liked the part when she sang the lyrics “Yeah we had only and nothin' but time // But some things just change overnight”
call it the end (3/5)
This song is also another one of her more poetic songs. ("And you were my only true oasis // Now all those oceans // Are falling down our faces") It is a slow song, and it was definitely a more emotional one.
too bad for us (4/5)
When the song started, I was immediately hooked. Rosé starts the song off right away, and I think this song contains the prettiest lyrics of the entire album, such as when she sings: “In the desert of us, all our tears turned into dust // Now the roses don't grow here.” However, near the middle, it starts to slow down and I do not like that section.
dance all night (4.5/5)
Although it is more upbeat than other songs, there is still a melancholy tone to Rosé's singing. I love, love, love the chorus.
***Note: there is one more song I did not review called "vampirehollie." It is an exclusive song on the exclusive edition of ‘rosie.’

Overall
rosie is most definitely a breakup album. Even though the songs were good, I expected more upbeat songs, which was a disappointment for me. Overall, the album gives fall Taylor Swift vibes. The lyrics are relatable, and most of the choruses are catchy.
There is a lot of repetitiveness throughout her songs. This album is supposed to be about her twenties, but I find it interesting that all these songs detail a breakup except for "APT."
I would give this overall album a 4/5. Although not extraordinary, rosie is exciting because Rosé is the first BLACKPINK member to release a full-length album. ‘Alterego’ by Lisa is coming out in February, while Jennie is scheduled to release an album on an unconfirmed date in 2025.
In conclusion, it is evident that Rosé has put her heart and soul into her album rosie. While some fans may be disappointed that more songs like "APT." were not included, it is clear that each song comes from the heart. BLINKS are most certainly listening to rosie on repeat!
