Pop, rock, metal, indie, classical, these musical genres are the most popular amongst teenagers and adults alike. But, there is one genre which is often overlooked as a sub-genre of pop music, EDM. Many of you all might associate EDM with Alan Walker, David Guetta, or Avicii (RIP), because they are trailblazers in the EDM industry.

Their music shaped my childhood, and I wager they must have shaped yours too. Fortunately, EDM has many other artists who have also made equally amazing music, but they are not as popular as Alan Walker, David Guetta, or Avicii. These artists deserve way more fame. That's why, here is a list of 6 artists to listen to if you like the type of music Alan Walker makes.

6. Steve Aoki

Steve Aoki is a Grammy-nominated record producer, DJ, and founder of Dim Mak Records. His music usually has a heavy bassline, and the correct word to describe his discography is badass. With a heavier emphasis on percussion, Aoki creates an amazing effect which makes me want to party hard.

Aoki has remixed Mic drop (by BTS) and made it into the banger it is today. He collaborated with Alan Walker to make the song Lonely (feat. ISAK and Omar Noir), and I swear it is one of the coolest tracks out there. His discography is meant for the heavy percussion music lovers.

5. R3HAB

R3HAB is a Dutch-Morroccan DJ and record producer who remixes pop songs and adds EDM elements in them without getting rid of the original vibe of the songs. His remix of Let Me Love You (originally by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber) is 'fire'. I highly recommend listening to his remix of One Kiss (originally by Dua Lipa) and Something Just Like This (originally by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay). This artist is a must-listen for all the EDM lovers out there.

4. Illenium

Nick Miller, also known as Illenium, is a music producer, DJ, and a songwriter who has been producing amazing EDM music since 2013. His music is for the emotional vibe lovers, because the musicality in his songs is heart touching. His song Eyes Wide Shut (sung by Avril Lavigne) is beautiful.

All That Really Matters (sung by Teddy Swims) gives a nostalgic feel in an upbeat way. And Crawl Outta Love (sung by Annika Wells) just hits different.

3. Alesso

Alesso is a Swedish DJ and record producer, whose music slaps. He has a way of charming his fans using intense drumming and melodic synths in his songs. He is one of my favourite artists.

Heroes (we could be) (sung by Tove Lo) gives a dreamy party vibe. Under Control (feat. Hurts, sung by Calvin Harris) is an absolute banger. When I'm Gone (sung by Katy Perry) is next level.

2. Kygo

Kygo is one of those artists whose music will not disappoint you in the slightest bit. He is an amazing DJ and music producer whose work is admired by all hardcore EDM fans like me. His track Happy now (sung by Sandro Cavazza) gives me the nostalgic and inner child vibes.

It ain't me (sung by Selena Gomez) is the serotonin of EDM. Stars Will Align (feat. Imagine Dragons) is one of the only few songs which give me the feels.

1. Martin Garrix

Martin Garrix is an exceptional DJ and record producer, possibly the one of the youngest EDM artists to reach this kind of repertoire. Garrix rapidly rose to fame after his hit song Animals, which he produced at the young age of 16. In The Name Of Love (sung by Bebe Rexha) hits hard as a romantic EDM song.

High On Life (sung by Bonn) is a fan-favourite track, which does feel like getting high on music. Angels For Each Other (sung by Arijit Singh) is a Hindi song, which gives off pure dopamine.

As a hardcore EDM fan, these artists bring out the party in me, listening to their songs makes me feel relaxed and ecstatic at the same time. Alan Walker is my favourite artist of all time, not because of how popular he is, but because of the energy and the feelings he puts in his music. And that is the same case with all the other artists I mentioned.

They completely changed my perspective of music, and inspired me to practice music as well. These artists are beasts in EDM, and it's a shame that they don't get the recognition they deserve. So I encourage you all to open Spotify right now and listen to their discography, because they will not make you regret.
