The school year 2021-2022 has started or is about to for most of us. I hope you've had a wonderful summer, gotten some rest, and are up for school. Why?

We are about to enter another school year full of uncertainty due to the ongoing pandemic (and who knows what else). Not to be pessimistic, but it's true.

We can't change what is happening or will happen, but we can have sturdy willpower and a positive mindset to start the school year strong and stay that way as it progresses. As a high school senior applying to colleges, I can use a little pep talk myself.

How about you?

In this article, I will give you some affirmation to help you feel less anxious and more sure of yourself as you kick start the school year 2021-2022. I hope you will save it and reread it as the year goes by to keep yourself strong and hopeful at all times.

1. You Will Survive

Unless something unexpected happens, you are going to survive, like you already have for the last year and a half. You've gotten used to wearing a mask, taking precautions in social settings, online learning, and so many more. These experiences, while inconvenient, have made you a lot more strong and capable, thus making this school year quite more handleable. Believe in yourself, because you will survive this one too, or even thrive!

2. You Will Adapt As You Go

Like I stated above, there might be times when you'll have to deal with the unexpected, the unwanted. While there's no way to prepare for what you haven't faced, you can count on yourself to stay tough and adapt as you go. Sure, it might be hard at first, but look at what you've been through and who you are now. Adapting can take a while, but ultimately, you will learn new ways to do things and become a better version of yourself.

3. There Are People Who Will Have your Back

This is one of the most comforting thoughts that I have whenever I feel uncertain about my future: that there will always be people whom I can rely on, whom I know will support me whatsoever. When we feel insecure like we're not good enough, it's always comforting to know that there are people (or a person) who love us not for how we look, what we accomplish, nor what we have, but just simply, plainly who we are.

4. You Will Meet Some More New People

As you enter a new school year and a new adventure, you will meet new people along the way. Maybe someone you've never met before, maybe someone you've always seen but never had the chance to get to know them. You never know with whom you will make friendships, so keep your eyes open and be ready to welcome them. I'm sure you don't want to miss them out.

5. You are In Control of What's Controllable

While you can't control the unexpected caused by the pandemic, you can grasp control over what's controllable: your classes, your extracurricular, your social circle, your routine, your mindset, and a lot more. Proactivity has always been emphasized about how it can change people's lives for the better, especially teenagers. Being proactive gives you a sense of empowerment, of autonomy in how you run your life and deal with challenges.

Is there anything controllable by you in your life that you'd like to change? Do you want to be healthier, develop new habits, get better grades, or hang out with better people? Well, then do it!

You can achieve everything you set your mind to. If you stick to your goal, you will transform so much after a year. Good luck!

6. This is Your Year

I don't know what grades you're in or what you hope to achieve throughout your high school experience, but this year is your year. Things might not turn out the way you expected, you might face some challenges you're unprepared for, etc. However, firmly believing this is your year will set you in an attitude that's always optimistic and hopeful, thus making you determined and driven to achieve your goals and get the best out of this year.

So, what do you hope to achieve? How do you see yourself spending your time? What results do you want to yield by the end of the year? Do you believe you will make it happen?

Please say yes. If not, please gather the willpower to do so. COVID-19 has taken so much away from us, so that little virus cannot take away your inner power and this school year too. DO NOT LET IT!

Conclusion

Above are 6 affirmations that I hope have helped you feel a little less anxious, if not more confident, to kick start this school year strong. While there are so many negative things that are out of our control, let's stay strong and hopeful at all times to get through another school year and make the best out of it.
