14 Creative Summer Side Hustles for Teens to Make Extra Cash

Career & Money

September 02, 2023

When summer vacation rolls around, all you want to do is relax. However, you do not have to spend all your summertime on your phone (like I did). Instead, you could use that free time to make money.

While it will be stressful to spend all your time working instead of relaxing, earning money makes it worth it. Here is a list of 14 part-times to earn you money over the summer.

1. Babysitting

Often, parents have to work and cannot take care of their children. That is where you come in. Ask around if you know someone who needs a babysitter and offer your babysitting services. Sometimes, they will pay you without you asking. You can find nanny job listings on sites like Jooble to find job listings in your area.

2. Tutoring

Just because school is no longer in session does not mean you cannot tutor. If you know a foreign language such as Spanish, French, German, etc., you can tutor learners in that language. Or if someone you know is taking summer school in a class you aced, you can offer them tutoring.

3. Walk Animals

If you love animals, then this is a job for you. Find a person who needs a dog walker and offer to do it. Make sure to feed the dog, bathe it, and do other things the dog's owner requests you to do.

Dogs aren't the only animals who need walks. Sometimes, cats, hamsters, rabbits, and other animals must be walked. While this is unusual, it does happen. So be prepared to walk all kinds of animals.

4. Wash Cars

People, are often deterred by expensive car washes, which creates a job opportunity for you. Let them know that they can come to you for a car wash at a cheaper price. Then just grab your bucket filled with water and a sponge and just start washing the car. If they know others in need of a car wash, ask them to recommend you to them.

5. Lifeguarding

I only recommend partaking in this activity if you are at least fifteen years old, an experienced swimmer, and CPR-certified. If you meet all those criteria, then this job is perfect for you. Try to find a nearby pool looking for a lifeguard.

6. Cleaning Houses

From vacuuming to washing dishes to taking out the trash, these are all chores done in everyday life. Why not get compensated for it by asking people to clean their houses? The more you clean, the more money in your pocket.

7. Blogging

Blogging is an excellent opportunity for all my fellow writers out there. While this will not earn you money instantly, it can still be something you can profit from. Find a niche you are passionate about and make that the focus of your blog. Then, soon, you will be making money in no time.

8. Make a YouTube Channel

Like blogging, it will take some time to make a profit. However, it is still possible to make a good income from this. Find a niche for your channel.

This niche can be tutorial videos, movie reviews, or book reviews. Then, attempt to expand your audience.

9. Deliver Newspapers

While this seems like an outdated part-time, it is a part-time that still goes on in many places. Look online and see if there are any newspaper-delivering jobs that are available in your area for a teen. Check with a parent or guardian beforehand and become familiar with Google Maps.

10. Mow Lawns

Mowing people's lawns is one of the most popular activities to do in the summer, yet one of the most profitable. Spread the word that you are offering lawn mowing services. To make yourself stand apart from the rest of the lawnmowers, try and invest in a riding lawnmower. This will get the job done faster, allowing you to earn even more money.

11. Clean Pools

While it may be hard to find a person who owns a pool, it is a great way to make some cash. Go online and look for people who need a pool cleaner. Offer them your services.

12. Become a Brand Ambassador

Teens nowadays spend a lot of time on their phones. You should find something useful to do with that by becoming a brand ambassador. If you have a large social media following, then advertise that you are willing to become a brand ambassador. Then just sit back and watch the offers roll in.

13. Take Surveys

Some websites pay you just to take surveys. Websites such as SurveyJunkie, Swagbucks, and OpinionOutpost allow anybody from the age of thirteen and older to take surveys for money on their websites.

14. Become a Caddy

If you love golf and are very knowledgeable at it, then try becoming a caddy. You have to carry golf clubs around, hand the person you are caddying their golf clubs, clean the golf clubs and golf balls, and retrieve golf balls. However, you are participating in a sport you love, so it will be fun.
