This year’s summer was the last summer in TSITP (or so we thought), with its final season bringing the story to an end with Team Conrad taking home the win. TSITP fans all around the world couldn’t believe that this was our last summer in Cousins Beach. But then, Prime Video officially green-lit a feature film for TSITP! The announcement of this new movie was made at a red-carpet event in Paris, surprising fans and continuing this beautiful story of love, betrayal, and summer.

We are all so excited to come back to Cousins Beach and see what our favourite couple, Belly and Conrad, are up to (sorry Team Jeremiah… sorry not sorry).

1. Director & Cast

There’s no surprise when we learned the director/writer of this new feature film is none other than the original author of the books that started it all, Jenny Han!!! And her co-writer Sarah Kucserka. For our cast, it's no surprise that our Cousins Beach princess Lola Tung is coming back as Isabel “Belly” Conklin. And for her love interest, playing Conrad Fisher, is Christopher Briney.

Other cast members that are most probably returning back to Cousins are Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Sean Kaufman (Steven), Rain Spencer (Taylor), and our favourite mother Jackie Chung (Laurel). Yes, all of them are coming back for the last summer in Cousins, for one last hurrah (TSITP Season 3 reference).

2. Release Date & Production Timeline

The exact release date for The Summer I Turned Pretty movie is still unknown. However, it’s widely expected that the film has already entered early production following the end of Season 3 of the TV series.

Filming could run anytime from mid-2025 to early 2026. If the schedule follows the usual TSITP pattern, fans can expect the movie to arrive in summer 2026, for another great summer in Cousins. We are all excited for this new movie even though no official dates have been announced yet, the hype is still real.

3. How the Movie Will Differ from the Books

With the announcement of the new movie, many fans are asking: is the plot coming from the original book trilogy, or is it going to be something brand new, a continuation of the story after the books have ended?

The answer is yes. This new movie will show the beginning of Belly’s and Conrad’s life together. Who knows, there might be a The Summer I Turned Pretty wedding.

Let’s hope this one goes well, as in the books, there is no Belly/Conrad wedding. This movie might bring the beginning of their happily ever after, as Jenny Han herself has said that this movie will be a big milestone in Belly’s journey.

Final Thoughts

As we wait for future updates from Prime Video, one thing is certain we are all very excited for another summer in Cousins. Whether the film gives us a long-awaited Belly/Conrad wedding or a small glimpse into the rest of their lives, one thing is clear this film will be monumental for The Summer I Turned Pretty fan base.

Personally, I am beyond excited to see the movie. I have always loved The Summer I Turned Pretty, the love triangle, the drama, Cousins Beach, the vibe… like, what’s not to love? And the fact that we all thought it was over, but then they surprised us with this final movie, makes it even better. I can’t wait for one more summer in Cousins.
