As most people know, rom-coms are on the rise again. Personally, I believe they have always been timeless. What’s not to love? With love that feels impossible not to love, supporting side characters, and of course, the stars of the operation, the two who fall in love, that makes it almost impossible not to cheer them on along the way.
Let’s see why rom-coms are back and why they are truly timeless.

Don't get me wrong, I love thrillers and action, but sometimes I just want to sit down and enjoy a movie that makes me feel painfully single. I am not one who even cares about romance that much, so you know it is doing its job.
There needs to be a contrast between the movies. As shown by Anyone But You being a hit people truly still want rom-coms. For example, take when Crazy Rich Asians broke out.
It was because they were a return to a "yes, give me a man who can buy a random street” level type of fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I’m all for the strong, independent female characters, but I just need a female character who believes in love no matter what. Because, despite what most think, that's also a strength. She could never get rejected well, but she still puts herself out there, which is brave to do as well.

The Feeling
Rom-coms have a just upbeat feeling. I am one of those people when seeing other people happy, make me happy. Not only that, but most are light-heated conduits makes people laugh.
It’s nice for movies not to take themselves for seriously and just take the audience on an adventure without a complex plot or excessive violence in the way.

Love That Everyone Craves
It’s simply the truth. Whether or not subconsciously, most want that incredible love that you see in rom-coms.
Though the rom-coms are somewhat unrealistic at points. I truly do believe you can find love like in rom-coms in real life. It has to happen with the right person really.

My Personal Experience
I didn’t always consider myself a rom-com person. But one night, I randomly put on To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because I was bored, and I got hooked. Not just because of Peter Kavinsky (yeah, okay, maybe it was because of him), but because of how real the emotions felt.
Since then, I’ve had moments where I watched a rom-com and actually teared up, not because I was sad, but because it reminded me how nice it is to want love. I don’t walk around constantly thinking about romance, but rom-coms sneak up on me. They remind me that it’s okay to dream about someone understanding you in that effortless way.
They also taught me that being romantic doesn’t make you weak. It can make you strong, brave, and it takes guts to put your heart on the line.
In The End
Rom-coms will always have a special place in my heart. I think they are perfect for those days when you need some hope in your life (and to cry your eyes out because you want love like that).
I truly hope that in the next year that new rom-coms may come out and melt my heart all over again.
