After romances such as ‘Queen of Tears’ and ‘Lovely Runner’, Korean drama fans around the world are now craving some thrill and horror, which is exactly what ‘Tarot’ is promising to give. Premiering near the middle of July (which is coming up soon!), ‘Tarot’ is expected to hit worldwide success and break records as one of the most popular supernatural-horror dramas, along with Parasyte. The Trailer

The trailer begins with eerie music that sustains suspense throughout the video, which has already amassed over 100k+ views on YouTube. The woman receives a tarot card that appears several times throughout the trailer, sometimes coated with blood, always with a mysterious and deadly aura around it. Perhaps the most creepy scene that has viewers entranced is a short 12-second clip of the main character watching her daughter dancing ballet in a video call.

The mom's face changes expressions, however, when the phone moves and she asks who is holding the phone. The video call promptly disconnects.

What Happens in ‘Tarot’?

According to Canneseries, there are seven episodes, each of which is thirty minutes long. Each episode begins with, as the title implies, each character receiving a tarot card with a determined fate. As scenes progress, horrors arise rapidly and it becomes difficult to tell whether what's happening is a nightmare or reality, or maybe even both. What happens is the exact opposite of what the tarot cards foretell, and the audience begins to realize that maybe there are double meanings behind the cards themselves.

What do we know for sure? One of the scenes involves Ji-Woo (acted by Cho Yeo-Jeong) who is a working mom. She leaves her daughter alone at home to go to work, when ‘strange and eerie’ things begin to happen and she is unable to stop them.

Other episodes involve a midnight taxi ride and a veteran delivery rider. These three episodes are featured in the movie, with another four stories to be added to the drama.

Who is the Cast of ‘Tarot’?

‘Tarot’ stars Cho Yeo-Jeong, who is perhaps most famously known for her role in the 2019 thriller film ‘Parasite’. ‘Parasite’ won numerous awards, including four Academy awards, and was the first non-English film to receive the Best Picture award. The film shot her into international fame and her role in ‘Tarot’ will undoubtedly be iconic as well, which is why fans around the world are looking forward to this drama. Some of her more notable characters include her leading role in the 2012 romantic thriller ‘The Concubine’ as well as the ‘The Servant’.

Some of the other famous actors and actresses in ‘Tarot’ include Park Ha-Sun, who you may know from ‘The Veil’ and ‘Love Affair in the Afternoon’. Kim Jin-Young, more commonly known as DEX, was also a pleasant surprise for most viewers when watching the trailer of ‘Tarot’, most joking that he seemed to be appearing everywhere. Most will recognize him from the reality dating show ‘Single’s Inferno', where nine individuals flirt and fall in love on a deserted island.

When Will ‘Tarot’ be Released?

According to several media outlets, ‘Tarot’ is set to release on July 15, 2024 on U+ Mobile TV. ‘Tarot’ has seven episodes, thirty minutes each, and should release two a week, on Monday and Tuesday respectively, which means that the drama is expected to end on August 5, 2024. Numerous fans are worried because the drama was originally set to release in June 2024 but was delayed due to unexpected circumstances. However, it is likely that it will be released sooner than later as the anthology has already been completed and the filming should be over.
