2025 is just as close to 2030 as it is to 2020, which is both daunting and exhilarating.
New year, new you. The countdown to midnight on New Years' Eve represents sweeping change for many. However, that doesn't mean drastic lifestyle shifts are accessible for constantly evolving teens.
Striving to become the best version of yourself is admirable, but feeling lost during the process is normal. A new year cannot transform someone's attitude towards life without intention and patience. For this reason, some teens use positive affirmations to track their progress and reaffirm their values.
Why Affirmations?

Positive affirmations may seem bizarre at first, but they have multiple benefits for our mental health.
During a research study conducted in 2016, scientists discovered that neural pathways related to our self-concept information processing are active when we explore our personal values. By practicing positive affirmations, we learn to broaden our sense of self and consider our strengths. Self-affirmations also encourage us to adopt different roles during stressful situations, boosting confidence and resilience.
They can serve as unique journaling prompts as well! Below, I have included 15 affirmations that will empower all teens for the new year. If you are interested in daily affirmations or journaling prompts to inspire new goals, one of my personal favorite Instagram accounts is @wetheurban. They post several affirmations biweekly and pair their positive messages with self-care routines.

Does Manifestation Work?
Implementing new habits, starting new routines, or learning how to take mental health breaks starts with intrinsic motivation. If we are not motivated by our emotions and personal convictions to take that first step, it's normal to procrastinate and forget we thought about challenging ourselves this year. Toxic motivation often backfires because putting pressure on just a few big goals decreases their overall appeal and removes flexibility. This is why positive affirmations are viewed as mindset rather than personality changes.

Whether manifesting works for each individual depends on how they approach their goals. One of my favorite quotes is by the poet Rumi, who often reflected on change and growth. He said, “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world.
Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” There is so much in life teens cannot control due to balancing school, extracurriculars, and family responsibilities. Rather than catastrophize over possible outcomes, let 2025 be the year where balance and affirmations propel confidence among young people.
