Sleep is one of the most crucial pillars of health. It is just as important as exercise and nutrition, yet it’s often the first thing people give up on when life gets busy and packed, including me.
On the other hand, quality sleep is far more than just rest! It’s a crucial necessity that impacts almost every system in the body. Here is why getting sufficient sleep is essential for your mental, emotional, and physical well-being:

While asleep, your body shifts into recovery mode. The immune system gets much stronger, muscles build, and tissues repair. Deep sleep equally releases growth hormones, which are optimal and crucial for healing and the physical development of the body. If you don’t get this nightly restoration, you will wake up feeling sluggish, tired, and more prone to sickness.
This happens to me quite often when I don’t sleep enough. Ensuring that you get enough sleep, anywhere from 7 to 9 hours, is crucial for bodily function. Personally, I use my Oura ring to track my sleep, which allows me to understand what I need to do in order to better my sleep. Additionally, I make sure to have a calming night routine before I sleep, so that I can wake up rested and ready for the day!

Sleep Makes Brain Function Sharper by the Hours
A brain that is well-rested functions better than a brain that is constantly working all the time without sleep. When we are sleeping, our concentration, memory, and decision-making are all boosted. Moreover, new information is produced and stored by your brain. When you skip on sleeping, or you have an inconsistent sleep schedule, your brain has to work much harder to maintain focus and a good reaction time.
I notice that when I get out of routine because of breaks or vacation, my sleep schedule becomes really messed up, which interferes with my focus throughout the day. Sleep withdrawal will lead to an increase in mistakes, even in simple tasks. I can specifically notice a change in my attention and focus in school when I am challenged with tasks.

Sleep Stabilizes Your Mood
Sleep has an overly powerful effect and impact on emotional balance. When you are well-rested, you handle stress in a more relaxed way, stay more patient, and think clearly and efficiently in emotional scenarios. Consistent lack of sleep, however, increases and develops mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and sensitivity to stress.
In other words, efficient and good sleep allows you to stay really relaxed. In my experience, I feel very restored and energized when I have a good night's sleep, which also allows me to feel more relaxed throughout the day. On the other hand, when I have constant poor sleep, I tend to be more anxious, angry, and nervous.
Overall, your sleep has a great impact on your mood for the day!
