Anna Wintour has held the position as the Editor-in-Chief for Vogue for decades. She is also the lead chairperson of the Met Gala. However, known disagreement between Wintour and Campbell has surged since last fall.
In September of 2024, during the Harlem Fashion Row and Style Awards, Wintour, when rewarding Campbell the Fashion Icon Award, made a remark about Campbell's supposedly constant tardiness.
As she introduced Campbell, Wintour asserted to the crowd that she was "presenting tonight to someone who is often late."
Campbell did not hesitate in throwing shade back. After another introduction by Samira Nasr, Campbell indirectly responded to Wintour's comment: "I want to say this. Everything is meant to work out the way it's going to work out," she said to her audience. "It wasn't my choice to have the other lady. I would much rather have this."
The famous dispute between these two fashion icons is rumored to be the reason behind Campbell's decline to attend the Gala.

Is Naomi Campbell Banned from the Met Gala?
The short answer is no, she is not banned.
Although there were some reports buzzing across the internet stating that Campbell was banned from attending the Met Gala this year and in the future, they are currently false.
However, there is still a possibility that Wintour, who seemed to never like Campbell in the first place, could hold a grudge against her and use her authority in this fashion event to actually ban Campbell in the coming years. But for now, those are just rumors.

Naomi Campbell's Conclusion at the Met Gala Last Year
Before Campbell's feud with Wintour, before any known contention between the two, Naomi Campbell declared something shocking in a behind-the-scenes look of Met Gala 2024.
Last year, Campbell explained that the Met Gala 2024 would be her last, blaming her age for her decision. In a YouTube video by her channel, Campbell exclaimed, "I can't. I'm too old. It's too much for me."
This means that Campbell had actually planned on her no-show at the Gala this year. This is a credible reason as to why Campbell skipped the prestigious fashion event, but is it the only reason? Maybe, maybe not.
So What Really Happened?
Even though that the feud with Wintour could be one of the reasons Campbell chose not to make an appearance at this year's Met Gala, it is more likely suggested that Campbell simply retired from this high-profile event. Still, it's hard to be sure of what really happened between Campbell and Wintour, and why they dislike each other. Will Naomi Campbell will make her return next year?
Or will she be stopped by a bitter Anna Wintour? Only time will tell.
