My Take on the "That Girl" Trend

Personal Growth

January 26, 2022

The world right now is filled with trends, some of which can be really degrading towards others and even toxic. The "That Girl" trend focuses on telling young girls that they should be working out, eating healthy, have nice skincare, and really take care of themselves.

But is it really a good trend? Or is it going to turn into one of those toxic trends that tells young girls that they aren't good enough in the eyes of society?

About the "That Girl" Trend

"It is all about living your best life and being known as the nice girl and not the bitchy one." How to be "That Girl" From the TikTok Trend in 2021 - Tonking Around

"Becoming that girl is not about being someone else or copying their lifestyle. It’s about becoming the best version of yourself." How to be "That Girl" From the TikTok Trend in 2021 - Tonking Around

At first glance, the "That Girl" trend honestly seems pretty great. It teaches young girls how to properly take care of themselves and how to find their own identity.

The trend is based off of developing a healthy lifestyle along with a sense of style that you really like, instead of following along with what everyone else is wearing. Here is a TikTok that gives helpful advice on how to become "That Girl."

  • Go on walks daily.

  • Keep your room clean and organized.

Could this trend be toxic?

Overall, I don't think the trend itself is toxic or harmful to girls. This trend is about developing a healthy lifestyle and your own identity, but like any trend, there is always a stereotype of those who participate in it.

With the trend being based on how to look and act, I do think it could cause some body image and self-esteem problems. So, for many girls that don't fit the stereotype of "That Girl", this could potentially be harmful and problematic. But in general, I would not consider this trend toxic.
