If you're craving an adrenaline-fueled thriller with a touch of emotional complexity that makes an action movie more than what it usually is, Eenie Meanie might be your next streaming fix.

Released exclusively on Hulu (and Disney+ in some regions) on August 22, 2025, this action-comedy–thriller hybrid follows the story of a former getaway driver who gets drawn back into a life of crime.

Plot Overview

Eenie Meanie follows Edie (Samara Weaving), nicknamed "Eenie Meanie", a former teenage getaway driver who has reinvented herself as a college student and bank teller.

Just when Edie thinks she’s finally moved on from her dangerous past and a toxic ex (Karl Glusman), she discovers she's pregnant, and chaos ensues. Her ex has gone too far this time and owes a crime boss (Andy Garcia) enough to get killed. To protect him (and perhaps out of lingering attachment), Edie agrees to drive for one last heist.

What Reviewers Are Saying

Because it's important to know whether it's a flop or not before comitting hours of your time to watch a movie.

Highlights

Samara Weaving shines. Across multiple reviews, Weaving's performance is praised for blending vulnerability and toughness, compelling us to root for her character.

Weaving has been steadily building her reputation as one of Hollywood’s most versatile rising stars. I personally first saw her work in the thriller The Babysitter (2017), and thought her performance as a cool-girl-babysitter-that-happens-to-be-in-a-demonic-cult was a stand-out. Her acting in the horror-comedy Ready or Not (2019), where she played a new bride forced to survive a deadly game of hide-and-seek, was also well received.

Practical, grounded stunts. The film’s action sequences—particularly the car chases—are praised for being gritty and authentic rather than over-the-top spectacle. That's always a plus, when CGI sometimes gets out of hand.

Balanced tone. The movie blends action, drama, and humor in a way that feels fresh and emotional. Viewers can laugh, feel suspense, and care about the characters, all within the same story arc, which sets it apart from other streaming-only thrillers.

Criticisms

Tonally uneven. Mixing genres proves tricky; some felt the script overcomplicates itself with excess subplots, while the emotional beats, like the romance or pregnancy plotline, didn't always land. This can make the pacing feel uneven with moments that either drag or fail to fully hit the emotional beats. For viewers expecting a tight, cohesive thriller, this might be a minor distraction.

Streaming-only release. A few lament that Eenie Meanie could have benefited from a theatrical run, where its retro feel and stunt work might have stood out more.

Verdict: Is It Worth Watching?

If you like a charismatic lead performance that anchors the film emotionally with realistic action sequences, this might be it for you.

But if you want a groundbreaking or deeply original heist film, I would watch it with lowered expectations.
