It has been revealed that Gerwig's Narnia adaptation will use The Magician's Nephew as its source material. Published in 1955, this prequel novel was the sixth of the seven Chronicles of Narnia books and has been dubbed the "origin story" of Narnia.
This book follows the adventures of a boy named Digory Kirke and his friend Polly Plummer as they explore worlds created by Digory's Uncle Andrew, a sorcerer. Its official synopsis is as follows:
On a daring quest to save a life, two friends are hurled into another world, where an evil sorceress seeks to enslave them. But then the lion Aslan's song weaves itself into the fabric of a new land, a land that will be known as Narnia. And in Narnia, all things are possible.
However, Gerwig has signed a contract for "at least two" movies, as per ScreenRant. It has not yet been revealed what book will be adapted in any subsequent Narnia movies directed by her.

Why is Greta Gerwig's Narnia being released in cinemas?
Netflix is producing this new adaptation of the beloved Chronicles of Narnia series. Hence, many presumed that, just like other Netflix original movies, the film would be released straight onto the streaming service.
However, as per IMDb, Gerwig "insisted" on a theatrical run for this movie. This prompted Netflix to make a deal with IMAX for the film to be in cinemas for two weeks next Thanksgiving, something unheard of for the company.
