How Beauty Influencer Lizzie Bowker is Embracing Self-Care and Glowy Skin This Year

Beauty & Style

Thu, February 08

We're finally one month into 2024, and this year, we're setting the intention to channel the best version of ourself: maintaining a productive routine, taking the time to focus on self-care, and truly living in the present. If there's one person who represents this positive mindset wholeheartedly, it's Lizzie Bowker, whose presence on social media is filled with inspiring content and genuine advice for the skincare and beauty community.

By lending useful tips and recommendations, she's been able to support and direct her followers through their glow up journeys, one step at a time. We interviewed Lizzie about it all, where she shared some special insight into her life, both on and off social media.

Entering the Skincare and Beauty Niche

Delving into the beauty realm around one year ago, Lizzie's impact on the community has already been one charged with passion right off the bat.

“I started by sharing my skincare journey and transformation on TikTok, which then led to me posting more about my routines and the products I use and love,” Lizzie explained.

Once transitioning into the flow of crafting authentic posts, Lizzie quickly realized that content creation was something she loved: “People began to reach out saying how they’re experiencing similar skin issues and looking for some guidance and tips. It was this that really motivated me to start sharing more and more, hoping that my experiences resonated with others and would show how acne is temporary. Over time, your skin can heal with the right methods and care!”

Although Lizzie originally concentrated her content on “Get ready with me” videos, she's now made her way to experimenting with various makeup looks and trends.

“Growing up in the world of competitive dance, I was always creating different looks for competitions so it was easy for me to pick up on! I’m more into the natural side of beauty today, but still love playing around with different looks,” she recalled.

Curating a Content Style

The beauty end of social media is an ever-evolving space to say the least.

For Lizzie, she portrays her content as “minimal aesthetic," with a basis on clean beauty and skincare. Embracing the idea of “glow from within,” her audience is empowered to feel confident in their skin and encouraged to overcome any skin barriers.

“I would say inspiration comes from growing up watching my mom do her makeup, as she always had amazing skin with products that would slide on so seamlessly," she noted. "Also watching lots of Vogue Beauty Secrets while getting ready!”

Skincare Journey Takeaways

A special aspect to Lizzie's content is how she implements her own experiences to promote that everyone's skin is different and not meant to be perfect. Despite the skincare journey proving to be difficult at times, it's still possible to make progressive change.

“I’ve honestly gone through so much with my skin. I would say acne started flaring up around 15 and would come in waves. It then got to a point where I couldn't manage it myself anymore. No products, topical prescription creams, or the DIY at home methods—I tried them all—would do the job,” Lizzie recounted.

In the end, however, she's found importance in investing time to discover what specifically works best for her—because no person's skin is the same.

“Long story short, I decided to go to the dermatologist and it was the best decision. She was able to assess and guide me along my Accutane journey while we curated a skincare routine for my skin type!”

Advice to All

From Lizzie's knowledge, she preaches that less is always more: “Obviously depending on your skin type and concerns, it's hard to give a general skin routine. It’s a lot about trial and error and seeing what works for you specifically. I share a lot of the products I love and that work for me on my socials.”

In terms of staying consistent with productivity, Lizzie suggests developing a general schedule to follow, as well as getting in the habit of assembling to-do lists to get tasks done.

“Having a morning and night routine helps so you can wake up feeling motivated and excited to start the day, and a night routine to have something to look forward to—whether it's reading, taking a shower, self-care, or cooking!" she advised.

“This always helps me stay on task and fall in love with my day to day.”

Daily Routine

Keeping to the notion of productivity, we asked Lizzie to take us through a quick day in the life for those who look up to her lifestyle.

Here's what she shared:

  1. Wake up. Drink a huge glass of water—and do my skincare of course.
  2. Then, head over to make my morning hojicha latte—so good—and either do some reading or computer work and emails!
  3. I love getting some movement first thing in the morning, so I’ll either go for a walk or do a workout. Then, I'll come back and get started with my day.
  4. My day to day changes often, but normally it consists of computer work, filming, editing with some walks, and yummy food in between.
  5. Winding down, I’ll normally do my skincare and read, then head to bed around 10pm!

Future Plans

Lastly, what's next for Lizzie?

In hopes of exploring, Lizzie plans to do a lot of traveling, with her dream bucket list vacation being Greece: "I’ve only been to a handful of places around the world and hope to add onto that list as much as possible."
