We've all been there: dashing for the school bus barely out of our pajamas (or not!), and certainly without our hair done! Although doing any sort of hairstyle takes precious minutes that some of us don't have in the morning, it's helpful to have easy hairstyles that we can quickly do in the car or in the bathroom before the first bell. In order for our hair to look great next school year, let's take advantage of the time we have now. Summer is a great time to learn new skills, and for all of us with long hair, learning new hairstyles is a necessity!

Apply Now1. Twisted Ponytail
A twist on the classic ponytail is a hairstyle that will still look great in only a minute of work! I've tried this myself, and I would recommend adding bobby pins where needed, as this ponytail can easily fall out with a too-loose hair tie.
1. Create a low ponytail.
2. Gently separate your hair into two sections above the hair tie.
3. Flip the ponytail through the hole you created.
That's all for the easiest hairstyle on this list!
2. Half up
Although there are countless variations on the half-up, my favorite is creating two small braids and connecting them in the back.
1. Create two small braids, one on each side of your scalp.
2. Tie the ends of the braids together with a hair tie at the back of your head.
This hairstyle is perfect for keeping hair out of your face while you go about your day. The detail on the back of each style makes for a beautiful embellishment. Although there are different twists to the half-up, here is a video that describes four basic ones:
There are four variations of the half-up hairstyle. Some take longer to practice than others. However, with such beautiful end results, I would highly recommend taking the time to learn it!
3. Dutch Braid
Not only are Dutch braids gorgeous in half-ups, but by themselves, in buns, and including in any other style you can think of! Although this braid looks complicated, if you can French braid, it's an easy transition to a Dutch braid. From a French braid, instead of crossing your hair over itself, cross under, which will give you the puffed out braid look. This is the most complicated hairstyle on this list, and although it takes time to learn, with practice, it can easily become a look completed in five minutes or less!
Although these hairstyles are not easily completed in five minutes, here's a video to give you an idea about how you could incorporate Dutch braids into more styles:
Dutch braids are a hairstyle I wear almost every day, and are beautiful at school, church, weddings, and every event you can think of. I would highly recommend learning these braids as part of your summer bucket list!
4. Messy Bun
All the rage a few years ago, the messy bun is still a staple for a more casual look today. There are many ways to create a messy bun but they all achieve an effortless, disheveled look. Here is one variation that I often use while hanging around the house. For an added touch, wrap a colored scarf around your head when the bun is complete!
1. Put your hair into a high ponytail.
2. Using another hair tie, loop it around the ponytail once, and on the second time, leave your hair hanging out.
3. With the remainder of your hair tie, wrap it around your newly-created bun.
4. With the hair that is hanging out, separate into two sections.
5. Wrap them around the bun and secure them with bobby pins.
5. Rope Braid
A step down from the more complicated Dutch braid, the rope braid is created with only two sections of hair twisted around each other. You can create one big braid in the middle of your head, or two low braids. Created with a high ponytail, this braid is great for all your games and sports practices!
1. Separate your hair into two sections.
2. Twist the two sections of hair around each other, and tie them off with a hair tie at the end.
Whether shooting for the Dutch braids or the simple twisted ponytail, there's a style for every rushed day on this list. During the summer months, I encourage you to practise these so that when the school year begins, you will find yourself able to complete any of these looks in only a matter of minutes.
