Costco Is Expanding Their Store Hours: Why This Is a Huge Win for the Company and Also Its Shoppers

Opinion

Sat, June 28

Costco is doing something rare in the world of retail: listening to its members — and rewarding them for it.

Starting June 30, Executive members will get earlier access to their local warehouses, with doors opening at 9 a.m. instead of 10 on weekdays and Sundays, plus exclusive shopping windows on Saturdays.

The updated Costco Hours for Executive members are:

  • Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (9 a.m. - 10 a.m. exclusive hours for Executive members)
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. exclusive hours for Executive members)
  • Sunday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (9 a.m. - 10 a.m. exclusive hours for Executive members)

A Smart Retail Move

This means fewer crowds, better parking, and a head start on snagging those elusive rotisserie chickens before they disappear. For busy professionals, early risers, or parents trying to get errands done before soccer practice, it’s a small but meaningful shift in how Costco values its most loyal members.

Costco is giving members more reasons to upgrade, which means more revenue from memberships— a major profit driver for the company— and more loyalty overall.

But here's the real question.

Why Stop at the Warehouse?

Costco’s success has always been rooted in knowing its customer: pragmatic, value-driven, time-conscious. Early shopping hours are a great start. Now let’s apply that same logic to where we start and end most Costco trips: at the pump.

Expanding gas station hours (or even offering early-access or after-hours pumps for Executive members) could be a game-changer. Imagine filling up your tank at 9 p.m. after a late Costco run without the 20-car queue. That’s a perk many would pay extra for — and, frankly, already do.
