1. You’ll No Longer Need to Take Off Your Shoes

Starting July 13, 2025, the TSA will no longer require travelers to remove their shoes at general security lines in many major U.S. airports.

2. New Tech Makes It Possible

The rule requiring passengers to remove their shoes was introduced after a failed attempt to set off an explosive device hidden in a passenger’s footwear on a flight to Miami.

Thanks to upgraded screening technology that can scan footwear more effectively, passengers can now keep their shoes on without compromising safety.

3. Applies to Most Major Airports

The change will roll out at large and mid-size airports first, with more to follow. Check your airport’s website to see if the policy applies before you fly.

4. It's Not Just for TSA PreCheck Anymore

Previously, only TSA PreCheck passengers, children under 13, or adults over 75 enjoyed this perk, but now, general security lines are getting the upgrade too.
