Blackpink's Jennie and BTS' V Break Up Before Military Enlistment

Pop Culture

December 16, 2023

Guys…grab the tissues and ice cream (or popcorn and soda). It's apparently been circulating around that BTS' Taehyung (V) and Blackpink's Jennie have broken up. These types of news are pretty rare, given the strict guidelines that K-pop idols are under.

No drinking, no smoking, diet if overweight, no tattoos, are expected to keep a perfect image at all times, and NO DATING. Despite the absence of official confirmations, whispers and speculations surrounding their alleged relationship have left fans wondering about the details behind this unexpected split.

It's over

While neither Big Hit Music nor YG Entertainment has officially addressed the situation, numerous media outlets have covered their rumored relationship. The news of their split emerged through an exclusive report by JTBC, claiming that V and Jennie decided to part ways recently. The lack of official confirmation from either side has left fans relying on speculations and reports from various sources.

V and Jennie's dating history first came to light last summer when a photo of them together on Jeju Island circulated. Following this, they reportedly traveled to New York around the same time, posting photos of similar locations and intensifying rumors about their relationship. Despite no official acknowledgment from the idols or their agencies, many fans believed they were dating. Now, the rumors suggest that the two have gone their separate ways.

Adding to the speculation, Jennie had reportedly extended invitations to V and his circle of friends, including Park Seo Joon, Choi Woo Shik, and Park Hyung Sik, for a private listening party for her second album. Neither YG Entertainment nor Big Hit Music has commented on JTBC's report. Regarding individual pursuits, both V and Jennie continue to be active in their respective careers.

V, a member of BTS, remains dedicated to the group's commitments and projects. His artistic endeavors and contributions to the global music scene continue to captivate audiences worldwide. While the alleged breakup might have raised questions about how it would impact V personally, he appears focused on his professional responsibilities and enlistment in the military.

On the other hand, Jennie, a member of BLACKPINK, has been making headlines for her solo ventures. Despite the breakup rumors, she has engaged in various activities, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Jennie's solo track "One of the Girls" has been a hit, breaking into the top 10 on the Hot R&B Songs chart, a milestone for South Korean artists.

Additionally, she's reached No. 35 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, showing her influence on various Billboard lists. Not only that, she's the first female K-pop soloist to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams without releasing an album. In the wider context of BLACKPINK's recent activities, YG Entertainment announced on December 6 that all four members of the group, including Jennie, had signed exclusive group contracts. This move signifies their commitment to continue working together as a group. However, the status of their contracts remains uncertain. While they have committed to group activities, none of the members, including Jennie, has renewed their exclusive contracts with the agency at this point.

As fans await any official statements from the agencies involved, the focus remains on V and Jennie's individual journeys—V with BTS and Jennie with BLACKPINK. The dynamics of their personal lives may have shifted, but their commitment to their craft and their respective groups remains unwavering.

Say what?

You would think the Blinks and the Armys would be sad about the situation because they allegedly broke up. However, many of them are just confused about whether there was a relationship in the first place. Others were more upset, claiming that there wasn't any relationship between the two idols.

One fan wrote, "This is the first time we see a breakup without dating… be serious." Another fan went on a rant and called out the post stating, "Dude, when your brief report is filled with "reportedly" and "allegedly".... like, be serious! We know the difference between journalism and media play. 1. You say they were spotted by media houses and individuals.

WRONG. They were "allegedly" spotted by "individuals," and the media picked up on that because of the star power of the names involved and because... check up the term "paid media." 2. You say T@e, along with Wooga, was "invited" to some "private" screening party, and, well, Where's the proof of that? A fellow member of T@e had a private listening party of his album recently, and we DID have proof via pictures shared by ppl who were also invited. So, no proof from reliable sources, no confirmation, am I right? But, oh well, if you had any kind of genuine confirmation, you and your breed and your paymasters wouldn't have to fall back on the "reportedly" and the "allegedly," right?" Someone else said, "This is SO unprofessional. First of all, there was never any confirmation of them dating in the first place. Secondly, what's even your source for this alleged breakup? Please delete this misinformation. This is unacceptable."

The crazy part is some people were coming after Jennie directly, saying, "Girl can't stay loyal and serious while he is in the military, so I think they broke up." Another fan said it was a publicity stunt, stating, "It's clearly a media play. Now the deal is off, so they make sure there is a "headline" to let people know so that she can move on to her next "target." Someone else claimed Jennie was trying to mooch off Taehyung's fame, saying, "She's done riding on his fame after securing her YG contract." One user rebuttled with, "Jennie is more famous than him. Be serious." They even had a poll to figure out who was the more famous of the two.

Needless to say, the K-pop community is in shambles trying to figure this mystery out. It will only be a matter of time until someone comes out with the truth, or maybe not. But until then, all we can do is watch from the sidelines and see where these two will go in their careers moving into 2024 and (in Taehyung's case) 2025.
