Astrology, Tarot, and Crystals: Why Teens Are Turning to Spirituality in 2025

Aesthetics & Trends

June 17, 2025

Teenagers are becoming increasingly more aware of the world around them, and are more interested in understanding what's beyond, so they are resorting to astrology, tarot, and understanding crystals. Would this confirm that Gen Z is part of what we could call a 'spiritual revival'? Is this a re-enchantment of society or a genuine interest in improving oneself?

Why is Spirituality Becoming More Popular?

In a generation where information can be fit into small snippet videos, spirituality, tarot card reading, and astrological videos have become rebranded to fit the Gen Z prototype. There is a growth of spiritual influencers on social media pages, especially Instagram and TikTok, where traffic to spiritual profiles is increasing rapidly.

If you scroll on TikTok for a certain amount of time, it would be unsurprising to find someone airing a tarot card reading on live. People are so fascinated with knowing about their futures; their careers, love life, and future predictions; therefore, live videos about tarot would apply to a wide-scale online scope.

Gen Z are turning to spirituality for the main reason being personal healing. Social media has driven a lot of content around personal development, self-growth, and trying to be the best version of yourself. Gen Z can be referred to as the generation that's "trying to get better" and is finding a sense of belonging in the lives they live. They usually care less about a self-destructive culture, drug abuse, cigarette use, and aim for living more healthily and strongly (mind you, this is for most, definitely not all).

Spirituality might be much more than just a passing trend as Gen Z hopes to achieve some kind of 'spiritual satisfaction'. Many have pondered whether this will be, like many fleeting social media trends, another TikTok-related sensation that will just drift and age and pass by. It has lasted a lot longer than people think, and spirituality in the Gen Z world appears to still be thriving in 2025.

How Many People Are Spiritual And What Practices Are Being Embraced?

- A study revealed that 62 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds consider themselves spiritual, whether that is 'very' or 'rarely' spiritual.

- 43% of women between the ages of 18 and 59 believe in astrology.

These factors confirm this generation's desire for personal growth and empowerment in their own lives. Spirituality gives young people in this generation the opportunity to be in control of their lives at an early point in their lives.

  • Technology has made spirituality easily accessible for this generation, such as community groups focused on witchcraft (WitchTok) and astrology breakdowns (as well as tarot readings in real time). Though spirituality doesn’t have to be witchy in any sense, some young people are genuinely fascinated by the mystical side to spirituality, and are open to learning about spell work and other aspects of 'witchy spirituality'.
  • Tarot reading used to be such an unknown practice, but has now reached the public and online spheres in the modern generation that now, people are seeking for tutorials on where to get your tarot card readings, or where to buy a deck of tarot cards to do it at home.
  • Spirituality, tarot, and astrology for Gen Z has become more of a tool for mental wellness and self-discovery, rather than just embracing it as a form of mysticism. Crystals are also something which are being purchased a lot more than previously: crystal healing can help you align your energy, calm your energy and in some way help you to heal, which is really the end goal for Gen Z teenagers.

  • People want to heal, and it's becoming more publicly noticeable in this generation that people want to understand themselves and their emotions; thereby, spirituality acts as a passage for them to do exactly that.

Why Are People Choosing Spirituality In 2025?

The world can be very chaotic, and it's easy to miss the importance of intuition, tuning yourself with the world and having a space for introspection. Finding clarity within a chaotic world isn't easy, but learning how you can do that through a spiritual journey is something which can make you feel more grounded and at ease with your own intuition. That is why spirituality and modern-day tarot readings have such a strong hold on Gen Z, because there's no strict belief system to follow, rather individually forging your own path and meaning.

People want to be more liberal and free to choose where they go and what they do, and spirituality offers this exact pathway.

In the modern age, we talk of spirituality in alignment with its impact on mental health. The feelings of uncertainty can be complimented with leading a spiritual life to make experiences feel less daunting and stressful, as you are able to understand and acknowledge your feelings more profoundly.

  • Although spirituality is strictly an individual experience, it's also about shared experiences in a world that often feels disconnected and not so cohesive.
  • People are never alone in their struggles, and spirituality confirms this and offers a sense of belonging to those who feel lost amid life.

  • Gen Z are becoming more spiritual, and turning to astrology, meditation, tarot, and manifestations to deal with the growing challenges of modern life. People want to be part of this thriving community focused on development, personal progression, and mental growth.

Astrology And Spirituality

  • Astrology as a topic of study has been practised throughout history. It has always served as an explanation to spiritual learnings, and is still used to predict seasonal shifts (which was already done years before astronomy emerged as a scientific discipline).
  • Astrology helps gain insights into the spiritual world, and Gen Z has developed a certain interest in the astrological world, such as planets, galaxies, and life beyond our planet.

  • A teen's interest in delving into concepts like astrology can be explored in the podcast The Healing Circle, hosted by Janice Sequeira. The second episode of the platform focuses on the growing relevance of 'astrology and tarot' in the age of today.

- Tarini Shah as co-host and guest talks of her fascination towards it, and delves into ideas of manifestation, faith, and karmic connections. Spirituality blends ancient wisdom with personal belief, whilst also clarifying the increasing misconceptions about tarot and astrology as tangible subjects. The episode shines light on these ideas, and Tarini, as a Gen Z herself, comments on the following:

“I have always been curious about energy, manifestation, and how the universe works. There’s something powerful about putting good energy out and watching it come back to you. That’s what drew me in.

I also started visiting spiritual places more often—temples, and even Gurudwaras. Every time I sat there, I felt this different kind of energy—calm, peaceful, and grounding. For me, tarot and astrology aren’t just spiritual—they’re tools for self-reflection. They help me pause, think about where I am, what I want, and how I’m feeling."

- The connection between spiritual study and Gen Z is continually growing, as younger people want to find the correlations between personal freedom and self-improvement, whilst also learning about the appeal in astrology for expressing complex emotions and experiences.

Gen Z And Spirituality: Final Thoughts

The spiritual upheaval of Gen Z appears to be less of a re-enchantment, more of a revolution to be an 'improving generation', one that prioritises mental health and personal growth over anything else. People want to take control of their own lives, thus they are resorting to spirituality as a mediator to become the best version of yourself.

Astrology and tarot are helping young people make sense of the world, and offers a sense of predictability, especially when life feels too deep and one wants to find their purpose in the cosmos. This obsession with modern spirituality adds to this layer of not only personal discovery, but also just intellectual fascination and engagement, which is what Gen Z seems to be drifting towards as the 'progressive self-striving generation'.
