One of the important aspects of life that flowed through the veins of alt-pop singer Halston Dare was music. Based in Houston, TX, she always had a passion to become a singer ever since she was young, and with the release of the music video of her latest song "Replace You," her audience will only continue to grow.
The Teen Magazine spoke to her about her early life, the story behind her latest release, and her goals moving forward.

Apply NowGrowing Up and Rise to Fame
Dare began writing songs and poetry in lower middle school, which was when she truly discovered her passion to be a singer. She began to pursue that love by uploading covers by other artists such as Billie Eilish, Halsey, and Lady Gaga. In October 2017, she uploaded a cover video of herself singing Julia Michaels's "Issues" that later became viral on both Instagram and Facebook.
From there, she continued to gain popularity."All of the radio stations in my hometown were doing articles on me being Houston-based. It was really cool and really fun so I continued doing more covers," Dare said.
The Story Behind "Replace You"
"Replace You" was the result after a fight between Dare and her boyfriend at the time. The song itself tells the story of disagreements between lovers in which the best thing to do is to replace each other with someone better, someone who wouldn't waste the other's time doing useless things. This is essentially the wisest thing to do when a break in the relationship is inevitable. In Dare's case, she felt like she had to pay a dollar for her boyfriend's time, resulting in her feeling like she wasn't worth it for him. "No one should ever make you feel that way so I told him that I was going to replace him in a second and to never forget about me," she said.
She was especially glad that she wrote "Replace You," not to mention that she wrote it along with Michelle Buzz, her good friend. "We were so excited while we were writing that we knew it was a hit," Dare said.
Outside The Studio & Future Goals
Dare is a homebody outside of the studio and her pop genre specialization, along with having a very small, close-knit group of friends. As her career went on, she acknowledges the fact of how hard it is to gain followers and recognition. It sounds weird to her but she hopes that someday, she has an intriguing profile. "I think right now I am a 'wannabe' influencer, but I would love to be an advocate for a lot of brands to help young girls and young boys find who they are and become inspired by whatever I am spreading awareness about," she said.
She also hopes to go on a world tour and create something that is never been done before or help aid something that has never been done before. "Like biodegradable glitter. That sounds cool to me," Dare said.
As a teen herself, she can relate to the struggles that other teens have, especially regarding the outlook on life. One of her favorite quotes is that "Your attitude determines your altitude. Everything will be okay in the end.
If it’s not okay, then it’s not the end." Not only would this apply to internal problems but also to the issues taking place right now, including the COVID-19 pandemic. "I think it’s horrible to see what is happening to the world right now. On an optimistic side though, the world is coming together and being educated about these issues. The world is joining and uniting together emotionally, mentally, and physically," Dare said.
