A Honest Review of the 2025 Met Gala

The most anticipated evening of the night for fashion connoisseurs and enjoyers has come to an official close. This year’s annual charity fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City had even the unacquainted sat as the incredible example of our historical rooted identity seeped through the colors of an exquisite palette and winded through the weaves of fabric, shine of gems and jewelry, and coarse curls tucked into the dandy hats of our counterparts. So, who did it best? Let’s dive into the glitz and glamour, the best and worst, in my opinion of the 2025 Met Gala.

Best Look #1: Doechii

Doechii in Louis Vuitton. From the clean structured afro framed around her gorgeous face, ruffed with the ‘LV’ almost imprint-like logo on her cheek to break up a nice bold and cat-eye looking beat. The tie is everything, the almost bow looking maroon velvet tucked into the iconic pattern in a suit top jacket with a matching waistcoat and sharp tailcoat; paired with the bottom boxer-ish shorts with combative pattern to the torso.

She breaths big boss energy and the cigar only adds to it. Inspired by Julius Soubise, a formerly enslaved Afro-Caribbean man associated with the upper-class society who came into his own in the culture of England in the 1700s. Once released by his slave owner, he worked as a horse trainer and a fencer and build his own life and legacy. You can see almost the equestrian shape in the outfit and it just is a simple chef kiss.

Take the Quiz: Which Female Character Trope Do You Belong To?

Whether it's in film, TV, or literature, you've likely come across these female character tropes. Take this quiz to discover which one best matches...

Worst Look #1: Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber in Saint Laurent & Tiffy & CO. First, I want to talk about what’s great about this outfit. The jewelry. It’s gorgeous. I’m a silver kind of girl, so that is the moment of this outfit. But, that is awfully it. The double-breasted dress suit looks uncomfortable. The sharp shoulders are way too high up and the dress too boring and tiny at the bottom hem. The tights? Boring. And the pump heel is more afterparty.

I think what would’ve killed this outfit would be a longer dress, sinched at the waist a little to iron out the boxy shape, a petticoat underneath possibly and then cut out those shoulder pads and give us a wrapped belt with a deep plunge neck. Altogether, there is no story, not heart, or maybe we just missed it but that’s not a good sign.

Best Look #2: Cardi B

Cardi B in Burberry. This look is fabulous. If I were invited to the Wicked premiere, this is exactly what I would’ve worn (a girl can only dream). This is the best I’ve seen Cardi B, and she’s had some great outfits in the past, but I am living for this one right here.

Those ruffles are exactly what I needed for this theme, that very familiar fabric we grew up seeing on the church goer ladies, we would wish all that fabulousness on us as impressionable younger children. The jumpsuit is magical-looking. Like it was ripped from your auntie’s thrifted rug or curtain and turned into a drop-dead long pant goodnesses of an outfit, this tells a story. It shows what we had to use when we had nothing. 10s across the board.

Worst Look #2: Halle Berry

Halle Berry in LaQuan Smith. This look on the carpet was quite controversial others in the undergarment region. As an icon in the black community, we can see no wrong with her, but... this one did sting a little.

A lot of skin showing for kind of no reason and no flow. The dress wasn’t exactly reflective of the theme and was kind of giving funeral of the ballroom, not “Tailored” anything. Just be honest, it could have been better. We know this could have been better.

Best Look #3: SCOUPS

Scoups in BOSS. As a veteran CARAT, I absolutely screamed when I heard our fearless leader would be showing up to the meeting. I screamed even louder when I saw him hit the carpet in his gray monochrome Korean hanbok jacket. It’s absolutely stunning. The colors are handsome, and the coat wrapped around this dual suit and Hanbok or Jeogori. This outfit was a knockout on the carpet, and I think there wasn’t anyone more fitting for it than Seventeen’s leader.

Worst Look #3: Shakira

Shakira in Prabal Gurung. There is better ways to do this theme with a dress. I personally preferred the suits and such. But this was completely left filed. It’s more princess runway with that huge train. Now, she looks great, but just not the theme at all and I think Shakira would’ve looked great in a suit so I’m actually kind of disappointed.

Final Thoughts

And so, that's it! Met Gala 2025 is wrapped up, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year. Thank you for tuning into me. Let me know if you agree or disagree with my thoughts; I’m always up for a conversation.
