Puberty, which is also the development of acne and acne scarring, often begins for girls around the ages of twelve to thirteen or even earlier, which is why skincare products become popular for girls during that time, though lots of these girls wonder why their skincare routine isn’t working or why it seems like their acne is worsening over time. But I’m here to share with you three reasons why your skincare routine isn’t working for you.

There are two major skin types: sensitive skin and normal skin. Sensitive skin is a skin condition that causes your skin to react poorly to chemicals and fragrances in different products, which means that you have a higher risk of having skin conditions such as eczema and a lower chance of clearing acne or scarring, unclogging your pores, and relieving inflammation. With sensitive skin, it is difficult to find products that won't cause those kinds of reactions, so it would be best to start with a healthy diet and lots of water.
If your diet is poor, the change to a healthier diet may at first seem to have poor effects, but that is only your body's reaction to the change; over time, the results will be better. Having normal skin doesn't necessarily mean that you can't have acne; it just means that it'll be easier to find and use products that can clear acne quicker than those who have sensitive skin. It also means the protective barrier in your skin is tougher than it is for someone with sensitive skin. Acne is normal, and a healthy diet can be helpful when starting your acne-cleansing process. With any skin type, it is important that you keep healthy habits that include more than just eating healthy foods and drinking plenty of water but also not touching your face, exercising (for stress-related acne), and always wiping harmful fluids like sweat or perfume mist from your face to avoid breakouts.
Fun fact: Wiping tears on your face can clear acne because tears are meant to clean your eye ducts, so you can also use them to clean your face.

Moisturizer
One of the reasons your skincare routine isn’t working properly is the lack of moisturizer. After speaking with local teens who previously struggled with acne and acne scarring, they all noted one thing: moisturizing.
After a relaxing cleanse, it is important to moisturize your skin because it prevents dry skin, skin disorders, sensitive skin, aging skin, wrinkles, and oily skin. All of these things damage the skin and cause a greater development of acne.
The best results come from using these recommended products:
- CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion
- The Ordinary Moisturizing Factors
- e.l.f. Holy Hydration! Face Cream
For soft, glowing skin, hydrate your skin every day.

Sunscreen
Another mistake made in your daily routine that prevents healthier skin that you may not think is important during a daily skin routine is the lack of sunscreen use. When you don’t use sunscreen, you’re increasing the risk of sun cancer, skin cell damage, and sun damage. Using sunscreen can also minimize inflammation and relieve acne.
A lot of people never knew the importance of sunscreen, so they only implement it into their routine during extreme weather conditions, but in reality, sunscreen can moisturize and protect against extremely harmful skin diseases with consistent use.
Proper Cleansing
Lastly, to ensure high-quality skin, you must thoroughly rinse your face after using any product because, trust me, I’ve made the same mistake before. I once used a product and left it on forever. My face broke out into a huge rash, and my skin became extremely dehydrated.
In confusion and with extremely limited knowledge, I tried using the product again in multiple ways to find the problem with it, but nothing worked with everything I tried. So, after a while, I gave up. I didn't want to further damage my skin, and I knew that I was a fool to have tried so many times, but after a while, time went by, and I thought that I should try once more, so I tried again.
Only this time I’m older and have more knowledge of skincare. I realize that with each use, I’ve never rinsed the product off. Sometimes I'd put a little water on my face to make the soap spread, but I've never actually rinsed the product completely off. With that realization, I decided to give it a try. The product finally worked well for my skin. It was amazing. I was so glad to have finally made progress and made use of the face soap.
The purpose of this story is to show that washing your face with soap is important, and it is only the beginning. Never do anything else unless the product specifically encourages you to leave it on, because I know how harsh that one mistake can be.

Advice
Overall, it is important to maintain a steady and consistent skincare routine. Always remember the three ingredients of a healthy skin routine: moisturizer, sunscreen, and proper cleansing for the best results. After reading this article, I hope that each reader has gained some knowledge about a better skin routine.
Although all of these tips are very helpful for developing healthy skin, it is also important to keep in mind that every product does not work the same way for everyone, so it’s best to test new products on a small, unnoticeable place on your face, like the jawline, for example, and wait a few days to see the results. If the product doesn’t seem to work, try something else or lay off the product for a while. Start with a healthy diet and lots of water, which can also lead to healthier skin. Remember, acne can be anywhere on your body, and products aren't the only thing that can help.
