This group costume idea is especially effective if you're short on time and money. Pretty much all that's required to dress up as the Olympian gods and goddesses is a long white robe or dress as well as some gold makeup and a headband.
To differentiate yourself from your friends, you can customise your outfit with details relevant to the god you're dressed up as. For example, Athena can carry an owl plush on her shoulder, Artemis can hold a bow and arrow and Hera can wear peacock feather earrings.

2. Inside Out Emotions

Considering Inside Out 2 just came out, this group costume idea couldn't be more timely. Dressing up as Riley's emotions demands a bit more commitment than the other costume suggestions on this list, as it requires you to coat yourself in face paint (and sincerely hope it comes off at the end of the night) as well as don a bright wig. But, the effort is well worth it and you and your friends will definitely be amongst the best dressed wherever you are.
3. Famous Writers

If you and your friends are literature fans who are after some subtle, lesser-seen costumes, then it could be a nice idea to dress up as your favourite writers. You could dress as a specific group, such as the group of Romantic writers consisting of Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Lord Byron and their friends, or a random cocktail of writers like William Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, and Jane Austen.
4. Bridgerton Characters

Another fun and colourful group idea is dressing up as characters from the Bridgerton series. The characters' outfits can be recreated by wearing ornate dresses, white gloves, fancy updos and some elegant jewellery to top the look off. As well as being a good option for groups, the costume would also work well for couples.
5. The March Sisters

Why not dress up as everyone's favourite sisters from Little Women? To look like the March sisters, there's no specific outfit you must replicate; dressing in Civil-era clothing should be enough. This means going for a smock-style dress with big sleeves and large skirts.
However, if you are after specifics, you could attempt to replicate the outfits they wear in Greta Gerwig's 2018 remake. Meg's pink ball dress and Jo's brown jacket and red neckerchief are two particularly stand-out looks.
6. How to Train Your Dragon Vikings

A fun and lesser-seen group costume idea is dressing up as Hiccup and his friends from the series How to Train Your Dragon. This costume idea will require you to buy more components for your outfit than the other suggestions on this list. However, the outfit will look great and can always be re-used in future years. Bonus points if you dress your dogs or cats up as dragons!
7. Cowboys

This costume idea is a good one because you and your friends can commit to it as much or as little as you'd like. You could go full-on cowboy complete with boots, breeches, and lassoos, or stick to the simple choice of denim and a cowboy hat.
Sites like Pinterest and TikTok are rife with ways to customise and detail cowboy outfits, so it's a good idea to scour them for inspiration.
8. Minions

If you and your friends want costumes that are more fun than fashionable, then you should definitely consider dressing up as the minions from Despicable Me. The costume requires only three components: yellow skin, goggles, and blue dungarees. You and your gorls will look great! (So sorry. Had to be done.)
9. Medieval Lords and Ladies

Dressing up as medieval lords and ladies will have you feeling like you've walked straight out of an Arthurian legend. To dress up as a medieval lady, you can wear a dress with puffed or flared sleeves, accompanied by a corset and a sword. If you're dressing up as a lord, you can pair cuffed trousers with a puffy-sleeved shirt as well as a crown and a sword.
10. Strawberry Shortcake Characters

Take a trip down memory lane and dress up as the Strawberry Shortcake characters! I'm biased toward the 2003 series, but feel free to dress up as whichever version you and your friends like best. This is a cute, nostalgic costume idea that is more rarely seen than other children's series-inspired costumes like Tinkerbell and the Powerpuff Girls.
11. Glowing Skulls

If your friendship group isn't keen on going all out and wants something more low-key, dressing up as glowing skulls is a fun idea. To do this, all you need to do is wear a simple black outfit (even just a hoodie and joggers) and a glowing skull mask.
These can be purchased from sites like Amazon and eBay.
12. Sun, Moon and Stars

Dressing up as the sun, moon and stars is an especially great idea if you're part of a trio. The costume is another good one for if you're short on time. All you need to do is put on a nice dress or shirt from your wardrobe and then DIY a sun, moon or stars headband to go with it, along with some glittery makeup.
13. Ghosts

Dressing up as a ghost is a classic Halloween costume for a reason. Truly, there's perhaps no more iconic group costume than donning a simple white bedsheet and glasses. Doing so will have you and your friends looking like the coolest phantoms on the block.

Of course, you by no means have to precisely copy these outfit suggestions—feel free to customise them as you please. For example, you could dress up as zombie cowboys or Egyptian gods and goddesses. The important thing is you and your friends are wearing outfits you feel good (and spooky) in.
Happy Haunting!
