Underrated Artists Who Deserve a Spot on Your Playlist

Music & Podcasts

September 11, 2025

There are many great musicians who create amazing songs everyday but perhaps do not achieve the kind of recognition for their work that they deserve. Often these artists/charts offer a different perspective, sound, or lyricism than mainstream music.

The fact is, not all great music ends up on the Billboard Hot 100 or viewed on your TikTok "For You" page, but that’s why it’s special. It feels personal, like you found something that only a few others have. Listening to the smaller, lesser-known acts is like being given a secret map to a new world full of sounds.

So, instead of having the same artists on repeat, I'm sharing a few artists who I listen to and maybe you'd like their vibe too!

1. Emilee

Whether you are journaling, painting, or cleaning your room, Emilee has songs which are perfect to play in the background. The music of her songs are very unique and topped with her honey coded vocals, she is my go to for whenever I'm unwinding. Her songs are like a cozy blanket in the winter but have the perfect summer-night energy making them versatile. Emilee’s voice doesn’t just sing to you, it helps you feel the emotion, making even the most ordinary moments feel a little softer, a little more special.

2. Juliet Ivy

I found Juliet while I was scrolling through Instagram, and what caught my attention was that every single person in her small but connected audience was singing the song with her, word for word. Immediately, I searched for her on YouTube, and she did not disappoint. Her USP (unique selling proposition) are her lyrics.

Her writing style is so different from any other artist and the way she views certain topics and turns them into songs is quirky. Her song 'We're All Eating Each Other' is a perfect example of where she wrote lyrics that explain the inevitable truth of death and how we still spend our life thinking about various scenarios that will never matter.

3. DPR Ian

This guy has the potential to top charts and he does. One of his recent songs 'Don't Go Insane' went viral amongst the dance community on all social media platforms. Everyone was grooving to the 'belt-trend.' I recognized him from his 'Ballroom Extravaganza' era, and it's clear that his music hits different. He's in a lane where each song has it's own distinct vibe that nobody else is doing right now.

4. Seori

Hailing from South Korea, Seori not only makes songs in Korean but also in English. She produces, composes, and writes a major chunk of her songs. Seori still feels like she's severely underrated compared with what she deserves.

There is something about her music that can be processed on another level, it is not just songs, it is the vibes. If you're looking for an artist to add to your playlist to make it cooler, Seori is the artist to add. With her silky smooth vocals and genre-bending style, she turns R&B, indie, and pop into something that is entirely her own.

5. The Rose

The Rose is not only a band but an experience. Known for their heartfelt lyrics and genre-blending sound, this Korean alt-rock group has developed a dedicated worldwide fanbase due to their identity. With their themes of healing, love, and growth, The Rose produced angst-ridden songs that are the best when you realize that is exactly what you need. Much like Woosung's graveled but steely voice layered on top of atmospheric instrumentals, The Rose's sound is both raw and comforting.

6. Afternoon Bike Ride

It's all in the name. They have perfect songs for a bike ride, evening walk, and mundane daily chores. Their music is nostalgic yet energetic.

Their song was played in the Netflix series 'Never Have I Ever' as a background music and the soothing music instantly caught my attention. Grab your headphones and take yourself on an afternoon bike ride with Afternoon Bike Ride.

Conclusion

These are some of the artists I listen to on repeat. If you have any musicians that are severely underrated, don't gatekeep them! To find more artists, search for a playlist on Spotify, like a 'baking playlist,' and click on any one.

Already curated playlists helps us to discover different styles and vibes. Sometimes, you might find your next favorite artist there!
