These Are My Favourite Things to Do During Summer Other Than Going to the Beach

September 18, 2025

For most people, the first thing that comes to mind when summer is the topic, is the beach—sun, waves, sandcastles, sunburns, etc. But what if you’re not into the beach? Or maybe you live miles away from one?

Don’t worry, summer fun doesn’t have to end there. In fact, some of the best summer memories happen far from the beach. Whether you want to hang out with friends, try something brand new, or just make memories that last an eternity after school starts, here are some awesome ways to keep your next summer exciting.

1. Movie Nights

Picture this: you and your friends all pile into a car, grab a load of snacks on the way, and head to the theater for the latest blockbuster movie everyone’s been talking about. The whole thing becomes a hangout—not just the movie itself, but laughing in the lobby, arguing over which snacks to get, and maybe even taking some photos in front of the giant posters before heading in. Want to make it even better?

Turn it into a common occasion. Go every Friday night, try every new release, or make it a challenge to see at least one movie from a genre you normally wouldn’t watch, like horror, for example. And don’t skip the post-movie debate afterward; half the fun is arguing over whether it was the best thing ever or just another mid release. It’s simple, fun, chill, and the perfect way to spend a summer evening with your group of friends.

2. Hiking

If you don’t enjoy the beach or can’t get to one because you’re very far from one, this may be the next best thing for you. Hiking is perfect if you enjoy exploring new places and actually seeing something cool along the way. Trails often lead to amazing views, hidden waterfalls, or lakes you didn’t even know existed.

Bring your group of friends, pack snacks or a picnic, and make it a full-day adventure. Play some music, take pictures for memories, and enjoy the fact that you’re getting exercise without even noticing.

3. Pool Parties

If you think you need the ocean for water fun, they’re you’re absolutely wrong! A pool party on a hot summer day is basically unbeatable. Music blasting, friends swimming, pool floats everywhere, and snacks by the water.

It’s the perfect mix of relaxing and chaotic fun. Whether you’re, playing volleyball over the pool, or just floating around talking, it’s the ultimate summer hangout spot. Want to make it even more fun? Add a water balloon fight to the mix. Hand out buckets of balloons to each “team” and watch as the pool turns into the coolest, wettest battlefield ever. By the end, everyone’s laughing, drenched, and already planning the next pool day before this one’s even over.

4. Day Trips to New Locations

Here’s an easy way to feel like you’re on vacation without actually going far: pick a spot—maybe a cool small town with shops you’ve never been to, a hiking trail with an amazing view, or an amusement park filled with roller coasters—and go for the day. You don’t need big huge plan, because half the fun is just getting in the car and seeing where the day takes you. The best part isn’t even the destination, it’s the whole road trip vibe.

The playlists everyone fights over, the car snacks, or the random stops at the weirdest gas stations—it all becomes part of the adventure. Take a bunch of photos, try something new wherever you end up, and let the day be a mix of planned stops and totally random detours. By the time you get home, you’ll have a full camera roll, inside jokes with your friends, and memories you’ll be laughing about for the rest of the summer.

5. Sports & Outdoor Games

If you want something active, organize a soccer game with your friends, a frisbee match, or even a basketball tournament. Parks are perfect for this, and you can make it a weekly thing so everyone has something to be hyped for all summer long. You can even make team names, keep scoreboards, or have small prizes for the winners (maybe a gift card or a candy bar) to make it feel like a real mini-league.

It’s exercise, competition, and total fun all mixed into one. Someone will definitely trip, someone else will pull off an epic play, and everyone will leave with unforgettable memories—maybe you’ll leave with a few grass stains to prove it. Plus, it’s a way to stay active and hang out with friends at the same time, which definitely beats sitting inside all day every day, scrolling on your phone.

Final Thoughts

Summer doesn’t have to be all about beaches and oceans. Whether you’re laughing through a water balloon fight, going to the movies, or playing an amazing sports tournament with your friends, the real goal is making memories you’ll still be talking about when school starts back up. These are the moments that turn into inside jokes, stories you tell over and over, and photos you’ll look back on years from now. So grab your friends, pick a few ideas, and make the next summer the one you’ll never forget, because the best memories don’t just happen, you create them.
