What do we know about the wildfires?

The origins of the fires are unknown. However, the extreme Santa Ana winds made the fires increasingly larger. This windy weather began at the beginning of the week, fanning the flames and making them spread faster.

This led to uncontained burning, particularly in areas with large amounts of brush. The smoke from the fires has traveled to areas unaffected by the fires, polluting the air quality.

Because of the fires, many are under mandatory evacuation orders. LAUSD, as well as other private districts, have canceled school for the rest of the week, expressing not just concerns for the wildfires, but also of the smoke that came from it. Inspections would be needed to make sure schools are safe to return to.

Luckily, most of the fires are being contained. However, it is always wise to take precautions. Stay safe, and make sure to look out for any warnings and evacuation orders.
