About Kim Sae Ron

The late Kim Sae Ron was a South Korean actress born on 31st July 2000. She debuted in 2009 at the age of 9 years old as the main character in a movie called ‘A Brand New Life’. Kim Sae Ron starred in a total of 18 dramas and 13 movies.

She was a brilliant actor and loved by many, especially by those who knew her personally and her co-stars. Her online presence showed her to be a bright and loving person.

On February 16th, 2025, Kim Sae Ron was found unresponsive in her home in Seongdong-gu Seoul by police around 5 p.m. The police had arrived at her house after receiving a report from a friend. This friend, who the late Kim Sae Ron had promised to meet that day, had called the police when she did not hear back from the actor.

Police found no signs of crime or foul play. Sadly... Kim Sae Ron had taken her own life that day.

Incident That Paused Her Career

On the morning of May 18th, 2022, at around 8am KST the late Kim Sae Ron was arrested on DUI (driving under the influence) charges. The incident occurred in the District of Choengdam in Gangnam where the actress crashed into multiple objects, including a guardrail, street trees and an electrical box. The collision with the transformer caused a power outage that affected 50 nearby businesses and 4 buildings for around 3 hours. After the incident, her blood alcohol level was found to be at 0.2% (legal limit in Korea is 0.08%).

Debt and Compensation

Due to this incident the late actress had her driver's licence revoked, was removed from advertisements, removed from the last 2 episodes of the K- drama ‘Bloodhounds’. The late Kim Sae Ron was charged a total of 1.014 billion won ($740 211.28). This amount included advertisements (390 million won / 300 thousand dollars), Bloodhounds penalty (700 million won/ 538 thousand dollars) and Property damage (24 million won/ 19 thousand dollars). She also posted a handwritten apology for the incident.

Soon after the accident Kim Sae Ron was confirmed to be working part-time at a cafe due to the financial difficulties. GOLDMEDALIST also announced that on December 1st, 2022, the actress's contract with them had expired and they did not plan to renew it.

Romantic Relationship with Kim Soo Hyun

It all began in the early morning of March 24th, 2024, the late Kim Sae Ron had posted a photo of herself and Kim Soo Hyun on Instagram stories. The post had stayed up for only a few seconds before being deleted. Those few seconds were enough to light the internet with speculations on what kind relationship the actors had. The intimacy of the pose in the photo left many to suspect that the two were romantically involved, and the photo was an “accidental post”.

Shortly after the post, GOLDMEDALIST had released a statement regarding the rumors. In their statement they deny that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had no romantic relationship. GOLDMEDALIST stated that the photo was taken when the two were under the same agency and they were completely unable to understand Kim Sae Rons motivation behind posting it.

After Kim Sae Rons passing, on the night of March 12th, a cyber wrecker YouTube channel by the name HoverLab Inc released a broadcast exposing the relationship of the two actors. The YouTube video allegedly exposed Kim Soo Hyun for dating the late Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. HoverLab alleges that the actor's relationship started when Kim Sae Ron was 15 years old and Kim Soo Hyun was 27 years old. Kim Soo Hyun and his co-owned company GOLDMEDALIST were quick to deny HoverLabs claims that they dated when she was 15.

Due to the evidence presented by HoverLab, Kim Soo Hyun could no longer deny that there was once a romantic relationship between him and the late Kim Sae Ron. In HoverLabs broadcast the timeline presented states that the two actors were in a relationship for 6 years starting in 2015, when Kim Sae Ron was still a minor at just 15 years old. However, according to Kim Soo Hyun's timeline he and Kim Sae Ron were in a relationship from the summer of 2019 (June - August) soon after Kim Sae Ron became legal and until the fall of 2020 (September-November).

Legality vs Morality

Though nothing has been legally confirmed, evidence such as images and KakaoTalk messages between the actors allegedly from June 2016 have been presented as evidence. Whether their relationship had started in 2015 or 2019, it was morally questionable on Kim Soo Hyun's part as the adult.
