One of my most vivid childhood memories is telling everyone around me how much I loved Rapunzel, and how she was my favourite Disney princess. Back then, I couldn’t even enunciate the syllables of her name properly, but Tangled was one of the few movies that made my childhood special and nostalgic. And now, sixteen years later, Tangled is being revived, not as an animated feature, but as a full-blown live action movie!

Meet The Cast

  • Teagan Croft as Rapunzel

The Australian actress has been chosen to portray the charismatic, golden-haired, main character Rapunzel. She’s best known for her roles in Titans, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Osiris Child.

  • Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert

Bringing life to the charming young thief, Milo Manheim is starring aside Teagan Croft as Flynn Rider. He’s renowned for his work in the Disney television film franchise Zombies and for the Christmas musical, Journey to Bethlehem.

  • Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel

The main antagonist of the film, Rapunzel’s step-mother, Mother Gothel, will be played by Kathryn Hahn, whose casting was recently confirmed in March 2026. She is popularly known for her performances in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Our Idiot Brother and as a voice actor for the character Erica Van Helsing in Hotel Transylvania.

Getting Behind the Screen

The live action will be directed by none other than the director of The Greatest Showman, Michael Gracey.

In addition, the screenwriter for this film is Jennifer Kaytin Robinson best known for co-writing the screenplay and directing I Know What You Did Last Summer.

And finally, Kristin Burr, known for Cruella, will serve as the producer along with Lucy Kitada as the executive producer to bring the Disney remake to life.

Production and Release

On March 28, 2026, it was announced that the production of the new film will take place in mid-2026, around June, and the filming will most likely continue for eight months, using locations of the UK and Spain to recreate the beauty of the Kingdom of Corona, where Rapunzel resides.

The release date, however, is unspecified, but speculations reveal that the movie may be ready for release by 2027.

This beloved German fairy tale has been etched into many of our hearts ever since we first saw it on the big screens. The film captured a pure sense of wonder, adventure and the need for love and freedom, which stayed with viewers across the world, who grew up watching it. So, the return of the classic story as a live adaptation promises nostalgia plus a new cinematic experience.
