Sabrina Is Back: "Man's Best Friend" Is Our Best Friend

Music & Podcasts

September 01, 2025

Sabrina Carpenter has fed us well. This past Friday, we welcomed a new pup into the litter (pun very much intended), "Man's Best Friend"! It isn't a good pop album if it's not dropped in August on a school night... specifically the night before my math test...! But of course, we all need that bi-annual song-by-song opinionated album breakdown de moi. Let's take a look!

Manchild β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

Hey men! You've heard stupid... slow...useless... but have you heard the intro track to MBF? Sabrina's first true dip into country-pop, and she is owning it!

This song of the summer is Sab's second No.1 on the Hot 100, right behind "Please Please Please". Although not my favorite, it's definitely one of the memorable tracks! Amen!

Tears β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter, the woman you are. I think I speak for everyone when I say I was so prepared to ugly cry to this song, only to transform my entire bedroom into the club. I will say, what a crazy set of lyrics for the chorus.

Too bad it's all I have been singing this weekend. I really, really like this song, and I have no notes. If you haven't already, show some love to Miss Carpenter and stream that music video below!

My Man on Willpower β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†

One thing our Sab will never be is the least sought-after girl in the land! MBF is bringing us all of her country pop tricks, most of which we saw in her early success, "Please Please Please", but this one was not particularly interesting to me. I definitely lean more towards the fun, upbeat songs, so when you learn your music taste, songs like these do not feel like a punch in the gut because you (I) were not going to like the song anyways.

Sugar Talking β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…(β˜…)

Yeah, 5 stars weren't enough. I owe Amy Allen and John Ryan my life after this song (Realistically, I did over a year ago when they made the masterpiece that is "Good Graces"). I believe "Sugar Talking" took the 2000s into the 2020s to the next level.

Avril Lavigne would eat this UP! The guitar, the riffs, the emotions... I say that this goes into the MM&BHOF (Morgan's Music and Bops Hall of Fame). If sugar talking didn't work on Sabrina, it definitely worked on me.

We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

Although this is another Jack Antonoff song (and we all know how those go over in my reviews), this track gets the prettiest vocals award. I did want to point out that the song has so many musical parallels to a Britney Spears ballad. The key changes and the bright piano give, so if you go back and listen, you will find those similarities and maybe more!

Nobody's Son β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

First of all, where is T-Swift's feature? Did this not make the cut for "The Life of A Showgirl"? All jokes aside, make way for "Juno"'s cooler older sister.

Mark my words, this song will pick up popularity in no time. It is so easy to listen to, and Sabrina is complaining about men. The perfect storm.

Never Getting Laid β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

Ariana, what are you doing here? Seriously, what are all of these artists doing in this album? The "When just the other night" line really scratches my brain in all the right places, so, currently, this song sits as my favorite slow song of the album, and I can only describe it as if Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff had a baby, but Amy Allen has full custody. Y'know?

When Did You Get Hot? β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†

Witnessing Sabrina's attempt at making a hip-hop-ish reputation bonus track was not the most pleasing moment of the album. This song just did not flow well, but maybe that is just a preference thing. I will say, this beat would make an excellent Target commercial.

Go Go Juice β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†

How mad would y'all be if I said that I hated this one a little more? Sabrina goes super country with this one, and I am not sure if I find it suitable for her. I will say, the part where it slows down gives me chills. It's an oddly comforting section and really encapsulates the vibe and meaning of the song.

Don't Worry I'll Make You Worry β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

This song is one of the songs that you take a liking to the more that you listen to it. So much that it even bumped up a star in the past 24 hours! Such a pretty ballad, but a little lyrically confusing at times. Am I supposed to worry or not, Sabrina?!

House Tour β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

Well, wasn't this song just the cutest thing ever? Carpenter channels her inner Cyndi Lauper and makes this flirty tune while being the world's most musically inclined real estate agent (please laugh, I spent 10 minutes coming up with that). Such a mood booster and definitely one of Sab's more playful tracks!

Goodbye β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

You're not bilingual, but you should know that this was a great song to close out the album, hence the title. Also, did anyone else catch the obvious hints of ABBA/Mamma Mia? I thought that was the cutest little moment.

One thing that Sabrina never fails to mention is a musical. She might forget to say goodbye, though.

Better Than Short n' Sweet? Hm...

Short n' Sweet is one of the greatest pop albums of the 2020s, so comparing it to MBF is night and day. I do prefer SNS more, mainly because there were more songs that I vibed with. Don't get me wrong, the concept for this album was very well done, but the rollout and appeal of SNS is unmatched.

Then again, we have yet to see what Sabrina has in store for us in the coming months. There are already tour dates and pop-ups and performances, oh my! For now, though, I wish everyone the happiest of listenings!
