Juno, released in 2007, follows teen, Juno, as she navigates an unexpected pregnancy. She chooses a seemingly perfect family to adopt the child, but complications quickly arise. The movie also faces Juno's relationship with her father, step-mother, and her longtime friend, Paulie Bleeker.
It explores ideas about family, love, and adulthood. It does this in a very quiet way. It involves nostalgia with slang, soundtrack, and an overall feeling of warmth.

2) School of Rock
School or Rock is an essential comedy from the early 2000s. The movie is about Dewey Finn, a guitar player, who finds himself without a band, or job. He poses as a substitute teacher at an exclusive private school, and transforms his students into a full-fledge rock band. The movie culminates with Dewey hoping for redemtion at the Battle of the Bands competition.
This movie is great exposure to rock classics, and reminds viewers of 2000s comedy that newer movies seem to be lacking. While layered with jokes, the movie shares an important message about determination and teamwork.
3) Love & Basketball
Love & Basketball follows aspiring basketball players and childhood 'friends', Monica and Quincy. The movie is set over years, and viewers watch their relationships change, along with their individual goals in life. Monica fights hard to be noticed as a female basketball players, and Quincy comes to terms with his strained relationship with his father, a player for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Though released over 20 years ago, Love and Basketball remains relevant in todays' society. It refuses to back down against portraying sports' inequality. While the romantic relationship between the two protagonists is quite frustrating for a large portion of the movie, the chemistry between the two actors carries the storyline, along with their personal struggles. It reveals themes of identity, passion, but also love and sacrifice.
4) Bridget Jones's Diary
Bridget Jones's Diary, is a classic romantic comedy. Bridget, the main character fumbles through adulthood. On a hilarious determination for self-improvment, Bridget searches for love.
She is faced with difficult decisions, and it is all chronicled in her diary. The movie transports viewers back to the early 2000s, complete with a floppy-haired Hugh Grant, and timeless in its revelations about self-acceptance, and finding not just true, but a good love.
5) Ratatouille
The movie is set in France and follows a rat named Remy who has a talent for cooking. He can never be accepted as a chef, so he puts his culinary skills to use through Linguini, a young chef at a famous restaurant. Remy has the chance to prove himself to a food critic.
This animated film brings me back to watching movies in class at the end of the school year. It is the perfect mix of heartwarming and funny. It is not just a great kids movie, but a classic that the whole family can enjoy.
6) High School Musical
High School Musical is THE teen movie. It not only paved the way for a whole new type of Disney movie, but also impacted teenagers everywhere. The movie follows Gabriella and Troy as they both navigate how their love for theatre impacts their social standing.
It has a memorable cast, that evokes nostalgia everytime they are on screen. Everyone knows at least one song from the movie, and has the audience screaming at the top of their lungs. The storyline is simple enough to just laugh along with, and overall, provides a great sense of comfort.
